Subject: Parent Stress and Autism Spectrum Disorders Research Request

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Tara , and I am a doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology

at The University of Kentucky. I am conducting dissertation research regarding

parent stress, attribution and self-efficacy and the implications for the

parents of children with autism spectrum disorders under the direction of my

research advisor Dr. Stilwell.

We would like to enlist your assistance with this project by asking you to

forward the research participation request below, which contains the survey link

providing access to informed consent information and the questionnaire, to any

parents of children with autism spectrum disorders that are involved in your

organization. The questionnaire consists of an informed consent page with

information regarding research participant rights, a demographic questionnaire

and three brief questionnaires related to parent stress, attribution and

self-efficacy. Please know that all parent participation is voluntary and that

all research materials are coded in such a way that makes identification of

individual respondents virtually impossible. Also, findings will be reported

only in aggregate form and no individual information will be identified in any

presentation of the research findings. Additionally, parents will be provided

with contact information for the primary investigator should they wish to

request a copy of the study results.

---------- Dear Parent, My name is Tara and I am a doctoral

candidate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Kentucky . I am

currently conducting dissertation research under the direction of my research

advisor, Dr. Stilwell. I would like to invite you to participate in a

research study focused on understanding the relationships between parent

attribution, self-efficacy and stress for the parents of children with autism

spectrum disorders in comparison to parents of typically developing children. If

you are the parent of a child with an autism spectrum disorder or a typically

developing child between the ages of 4 and 16, I am very interested in your

experience as a parent. As a result of this study, I hope to develop a parent

training program through which parent stress levels can be decreased and the

developmental progress of children with autism spectrum disorders improved.

The study will require you to complete an online questionnaire regarding your

experience as a parent and will take approximately 20 minutes of your time. You

will not be asked for any personally identifying information (e.g., name,

address, phone number). Your confidentiality is very important and will be

protected. If you know of other parents of a child with an autism spectrum

disorder or a typically developing child who might be interested in

participating, please forward this research request to them. The following link

contains further information about the study and will enable you go complete the

questionnaire online. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=331382963802 Thank

you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Tara , M.S. Doctoral

Candidate, Counseling Psychology University of Kentucky
