Guest guest
I haven't tasted it personally, but when we open the capsule and mix it with the Orasweet syrup he loves it. Not sure how many here feel about the Orasweet but it is the only way I can get meds into my child. Is Acyclovir bitter tasting? Hi!We are contemplating switching our son from Valtrex to Acyclovir. We have been having too many problems with dosing the Valtrex. I was just wondering if Acyclovir is just as bitter tasting as Valtrex? I realize that any pill can taste bitter to some degree, but Valtrex is really, really bitter. Thanks,
Guest guest
Just bought some OraSweet. We will see if that helps with the Valtrex before switching to Acyclovir. > > I haven't tasted it personally, but when we open the capsule and mix it with the Orasweet syrup he loves it. Guest guest
I hope it works for you . When I mix, I open the capsule into a little mixing cup. Then I add about 1 tsp of water. Then to that I add about 1/2 tsp of Orasweet. I use a medicine dropper to mix it all by sucking it in and out of the dropper right in the cup till it's completely mixed. Then I squirt it right into his mouth right from the dropper. (I find when I use a little water it makes mixing easier and the stuff slides right out of the dropper without as much residue left behind.) Maybe that will work for you? Guest guest
We have fond helping our kiddo simply swallow supps is so much less traumatic esp as some are very bitter tasting. Lay you kiddo down, use the handle of ha plastic measiuring cup/spoon..slip it in mouth and turn it - that holds the mluth open and depresses the tongue...push the capsule to the back of throat past point of gag reflex, close mouth and voila...reward with some fresh spinach pear and apple juice and LOTS OF PRAISE...no sufar syrups, no food paranoia, and no worries aboujt how awful some things taste....SO much easier than hiding in food or mixing in other meduims, at least for us and our 2.5 yo. Good luck. > > > > I haven't tasted it personally, but when we open the capsule and > mix it with the Orasweet syrup he loves it. Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestion. I wish that could work for us but my son has a HUGE gag reflex and won't let us get anything into his mouth. Still eats baby food in order to get fruits and veggies cuz he gags on these too if given in a non-pureed form. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Guest guest
That does make it tough...if ge will tolerate cold you can make very nutritious sorbet in 2 minutes in a vitamix and hide it in a bit of that perhaps...bit of cabbage, carrot, ice honey and frozen strawberries....delish.....good luck.
