Guest guest
>>It is a great migraine producer for me! LOL no bebefits here... Catz<< ~~~Wine of all kinds causes almost immediate headaches for me. (Which is weird, because I've neve had a hangover in my life.) I imagine it has some good effects that can't be felt, however, according to the news reports in the last few years. Carol
Guest guest
Well, my migraines AND my acne both went away when I went GFCF, so I don't know if it exacerbates them or not! Guest guest
That's an interesting note. I on the other hand had the worst headaches from not consuming conventional milk, as in the migraines were withdrawal symptoms. They have gone away (except for extreme stress headaches that progress to migraines) since I have switched to only drinking milk that is antibiotic and synthetic hormone free. For my daughter they are a withdrawal symptom of wheat (possibly gluten). Thank you for reminding me how much I don't miss her headaches! :-) Now if I could only convince my mother to try it.... I was also taking calcium, magnesium, zinc, boron and copper, and have been for years. I figured I was obviously doing something wrong, so I have dropped all that except the D and C.L.O. I finally came to the conclusion that I might be just causing mineral imbalances with the minerals. I should eat more sardines, though. I have a problem eating them every day, but I guess I could put them in the blender with onions or something and eat them on celery. Thanks for reminding me. Another possibility to consider: hypochlorhydria, which is to say insufficient production of stomach acid. That severely impairs calcium absorption. Also, make sure you're taking a good form of supplemental D, and consider adding K back, but only the K2 form, which is harder to find. -

I second 's statement! I've been putting in 2 cups of pulverized anchovies into my kimchi lately, and the dark spots ( " age spots " ugh what a name) are lightening up, which is a sign of good Vit. K I've heard. You can't really taste the anchovies, they just add a nice depth of flavor. I expect whole fish heads run through the blender would work too. Since being GFCF and scarfing kimchi my bone density is way up though I do drink wine and coffee (too much). I do take cal/mag/D supplements, but lately I've been taking cod liver oil too. They said my bones are in the upper 10% range ... for a 30 year old, but I'm nearer to 50! My sister has ostopenia and my Mom has bad osteoporosis, and I've had all kinds of calcium problems, but it does seem to be reversible. The reason is not fully understood. Ingesting the dry natto spore is supposed to give better results than eating the stinky, cheesy, fermented natto beans. They can be made with beans other than soy and eaten with mustard and chopped green onions. Darrell

I wouldn't go near it the headaches lasted for half a day and were horrible. I started drinking it again when I was in Barcelona a couple months ago and I have not had one headache. I guess this another example of how abstaining from something for a long period of time can make an allergy go away. I know it's not entirely healthy but it sure feels good. I just buy mine at Whole Foods packed in olive oil. Also, I bought dried shaved bonito today and ate half the bag. Do any of you use this? Dried fish just does not have much taste, no matter what it is made of. Dried anchovies don't taste anything like the ones in cans. To my understanding, bonito flakes are just dried bonito flakes, not much processing, but since it doesn't have the bones and organs and such and has not been fermented, it's not as good as, say, fish sauce. Of course, at about age 30, the general population begins losing skeletal mass. That is why weight bearing exercise it vital to at least maintaining bone density as age increases. Anecdotally, women like Joyce Vedral have have built bone through resistance training and diet well after their 40s. There is no doubt in my mind that diet alone can ensure bone density. I just buy mine at Whole Foods packed in olive oil. I find King slightly less disappointing than other brands, but you definitely shouldn't buy them packed in oil. The n3s in the sardines are leeching out into the oil, and the oil is leeching into the sardine. Packed in water is the way to go, even though they don't taste as good and are generally harder to find. -
Guest guest
Del, You know, we women who are lighter in weight are much more prone to bone loss too. I gained about 8 pounds recently from eating more fats and I think I may just work at maintaining this new weight. That's like carrying an 8 pound barbell around all day, so gives one a little more weight bearing exercise. I read, not too long ago, that heavy women don't usually get osteoporosis. (One benefit of being fat I never thought about! :-) D'Adamo has a supplement you can take that is supposed to help, if you ingest too many lectins by accident. I think it would help the same way with gluten and casein. I can't remember the name of it, but you can find it at the ER4YT web site. Carol Well, I am between a rock and a hard place with this one. On one hand it should be good to help me not have such a hard time for accidently ingesting gluten/casin and on the other hand it is on the list of foods that help to eat up bone density (I have osteoporosis). Guest guest
>>What about mercury? Are these canned fish mercury free? (Herring should be ok too - I eat a lot of kippers.)I don't know much about Bonito, but it's bigger, so MAY be a problem. Carol

Guest guest
>>Another possibility to consider: hypochlorhydria, which is to say insufficient production of stomach acid. It kind of makes sense with me, though, because I have high histamine levels, which go along with high stomach acid levels. >>Also, make sure you're taking a good form of supplemental D, and consider adding K back, but only the K2 form, which is harder to find.<< ~~~I read that cholecalciferol is the best form, so that's what I'm taking. Is that the kind you mean? Most articles say to take K1, (Krispin Sullivan, Mercola), do you have a link that explains why we should take K2? I'd like to read it, if so. Sullivan recommends Super K by LEF, which has both K1 and K2, but the K1 is nine times more than the K2. You guys have convinced me to go back on the K, but now to decide which one to take. That's possible, though if you're normally fine it's unlikely you have an overabundance, but it's also possible you're just not taking the right kind, or that in addition to insufficient HCl, you also have insufficient stomach mucous secretion. The only way to find out for sure, unfortunately, is to get a lap test, but if you're brave you could also try the baking soda test. Just make sure not to use too much! -
