Guest guest
I have one of these spas and they really do relieve the heavy feeling in your legs. But I am reluctant to use it now because I read a message in this forum a few months ago that suggested use of these spas can lead to nickel poisoning. Is there any research to support that? Guest guest
Hi : There is the possibility of Nickel coming off from stainless steel electrodes. Nickel is not good, it is toxic to the body. If you can afford it, Platinum wire would be a good alternative (you don't need much)or even carbon fiber and possibly carbon rods such as those used in welding without the copper coating. I have tried this at home with a couple of plastic containers from the local dollar store filled with warm filtered water. I did the 3 milliamps for 11 minutes and then reversed the batteries. I could feel a tingle but nothing more. This is probably easier than tyring things like wet cloth wraps around the ankles and such. Guest guest
To be technically correct I think we are actually talking about graphite rods as they have about 1/4 the resistance of carbon rods. I have one of the BioEnergizers on order and will modify the electrode setup when it gets here or simply reverse engineer it and build my own. Graphite rods are one option and silver another. I'm tending to the silver option at this moment. Both are readily available. Guest guest
Hi , The BioEnergizer that I ordered is made in the UK -- it may be the same as yours. I believe it's electrodes are made out of aluminum. I have written them. I'll post that info as soon as I get it. They make an electrode cleaner that supposedly will extend the life of the electrodes. Guest guest
As regards whatever material you choose to use for plates, keep in mind conductivity and impedence issues. It is not as simple as people think. Just hook up a power source, drop a couple plates in the water, add a little salt a wa-la! I have a working system. I cannot begin to tell you the amount of engineering and research ivolved to get it right. I was quite excited with our first test run, only to discover that I cooked the output transistor we used to drive frequencies through the system because of mismatched impedence. My next test seemed to be a success as we had supposedly resolved the impedence issue with a ballast resistor. Twenty minutes later I noticed the case on the delivery system seemed to be sagging. Sure enough it was, we were driving so much heat inside of the delivery system that we were melting the case! A further test during development revealed the need to adjust our wiring, as high voltages capable of serious consequences were found under certain circumstances. More test were conducted to get the correct material along with an impedence match to the system. We finally arrived at a workable system after several seeming successes followed by several failures. Plate failure can occur in as little as 5 hours bcause of wiring issues. One should hope for at least 60-120 hours before replacement to keep cost down. Here again: impedance, plate thickness, plate material, plate spacing, voltage, current, and wiring will all be a factor in the longevity of the system, its success or failure. Two months and then again 1 year later we change our plate formula to our current one. Simple systems can be built, but be careful as regards voltages and any grounding issues that may arise during the testing phase as these may have shocking results! Guest guest
Hi Dave, Maybe they don't want to use the best material as they would then sell less replacement units. Is there any toxicity involved with graphite? It seems that carbon would be very safe. Bil PC 1000 M-Pulse 5000 magnetic pulse generator http://magpulser.com Mammoth Lakes, CA mailto:magpulser@... Guest guest
Mike, I appreciate the work that goes into a well engineered product, but like to play and build things myself and I'm not, at this point, trying to inject frequencies into the mix so it will be simpler than your device. And besides melting things down or blowing something up adds a little excitement to life. Guest guest
Hey Bil, Can't imagine that there would be any problem with carbon and even though carbon has more resistance that graphite, I think for this purpose that it is insignificant. Graphite, by the way, is just carbon - it has a different structure - just as diamond is just carbon. We could use diamond electrodes. I agree that a continuing income from electrodes is probably a good thing in the mind of the average manufacturer. After all look at the home printer market - they almost give the printers away and then sock it to ya for the ink and paper. I like the guy that is doing the units with the silver dollars. He also allows the user to chose from two waveforms from his power supply suppossedly for two different effects. http://www.hydrochi.com/ Dave > >> > >> Do they make carbon rods without the copper? > >> > >> Loyd > >> http://www.royalrife.com > >> > >> > >> Re: Cheap Foot Spa Detox > >> > >> > >> > > >> > Hi : > >> > > >> > There is the possibility of Nickel coming off from stainless steel > >> > electrodes. Guest guest
Hi Dave, I agree, the silver dollar idea is good. A little awkward to continually be looking for a good price on used coins though. Well, then carbon or graphite rods it is. I'm sure they'll need cleaning (hopefully just a good soaking in a non-toxic solution). The printer cartridges are priced way higher than they're worth. I buy new, excellent quality Epsom style cartridges for $2 ($30 value - sold to computer stores only). There should be laws against such overpricing.
