Guest guest
Welcome Robin to Affirmations!! We are so happy to have you join us in affirmations -- I have no doubt that you will be quite an asset to other group members! All of us have our ups and our downs, but we try to support each other here. Hugs, PJ Robin O Connor wrote: Hello everyone, My name is Robin and I just recently joined this group. I have been reading over the messages and what a wonderful place to be! I look forward to getting to know you better as we share our stories, our struggles and our triumphs! I believe that it is in this sharing that we become stronger, more brave, more peaceful and less fearful. We learn from each other what works and what doesn't. When we gather together like this for support and encouragement, to give to one another what we could not find alone, we learn that we are valuable, that we have worth in spite of all our stuggles and fears. And from this we gain confidence to face life head on and we gather the skills to defeat those daily giants. I am glad to be here. Thank you for having me. Robin http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/AffirmationstoDe-Stress A positive thinking, positive affirmations support group, discussing ways to cope with the stresses of daily life. Come aboard! Guest guest
Hello, all, I am a mother of a 14 year old son who is about 95% recovered, but with an Asperger's Syndrome diagnosis so he can get help with study and organizational skills from school, instead of a million complaints from teachers. I'm also professional homeopath and DAN! practitioner (but we don't do any of the DAN! prescription stuff) who focuses primarily on autism spectrum disorders (Not my reason for joining this group, but that way you will know that it colors my viewpoints of autism/Asperger's. If you wish more information, you can check out our parents' group on Yahoo!: Homeopathy-ADDthruAutism on Yahoo groups.). I joined this group because I hope to offer some help with the advocacy side of autism, and to give hope. After putting up with my son's district A)misdiagnosing, B)diagnosing but leaving him with no true special Ed teacher/resources as a Liason, C)pushing me to find an advocate who would get him what he needed out of the district, and D) finally placing him in a program for Asperger's that had been in existence for 6 years already in the district BECAUSE I hired an advocate, I think I can speak from the parent perspective. He is now in a great situation -- he is in all mainstream classes in the best high school in the district, but with a study hall with a teacher specifically in charge of the Asperger's kiddos. I feel like I've died and gone to heaven. Same feeling I had the first time I actually hired someone to clean my house one day!!!! I don't have to do it ALL any more! I would like to encourage all of you to not give in to the idea that you have to settle for what the school district offers -- get horsey like I did! Hire an advocate -- it may cost $200-400, but it will save you YEARS of fighting. Additionally, I would like to encourage you that there are health related reasons behind autism and Asperger's. They are repairable, and the kids can then do very well. Please look into biomedical or alternative treatments for your children's problems. Start with someone who understands this is a gut disorder with secondary fallout in behavior. My son's ARD was last week. I was pleasantly treated to being told that my son is the " poster child " for the program. The program helped, but it was our attention to his overall health that made a huge difference for him. Just FYI, as a freshman, he now has a girlfriend, whom he met at the homecoming dance - he entered a completely new high school this year and, though he was not happy about leaving the kids he'd grown up with for 9 years prior, he has adjusted, taken his schedule and grades pretty seriously, and planned out his 4 year high school plan almost completely on his own -- before I knew a thing about it! In fact, the other day, he said " Mom, I really do like this school. Maybe it's not so bad, after all! " SCORE!!!!!!!!! Take care, and see you around, C
Guest guest
> > My name is , I'm 42, married for 15 years to a wonderful guy and a mother to a 10-year-old boy, who is usually good. I have struggled with my weight and eating since I was about 9 or 10. Right now, I'm about 15 lbs heavier than I should be. I know the right way to eat and I know how good I feel when I am eating right but.... > > I am very active. I ride bike and I run and that has probably kept me from extreme weight gain. I guess I'm just tired of struggling with my weight and worrying about what I eat. I try a new program and it works great and I lose some weight but then I get bored with it and the weight is back on. I've been listening to IOWL for a few months now but these last few weeks have really hit home with me. The mind is a very powerful thing and during races it has kept me going when my body wanted to quit so I know the mind is where I need to focus. I need to find out what took a slender, normal 6 year old who never gave eating a 2nd thought and turned her into an overweight 8 year old obsessed with food. > Welcome, !
