Hi Deanna,

Hmmm...when I have pinto beans, I like to have them with brown rice.

I have a recipe for pintos called Buckaroo Beans that I like to

make. When I eat a serving of that with brown rice, I have a nice,

steady level of energy that lasts for hours.

What else did you have with the beans? or before the beans, like for

breakfast?

Deanna,

I have found that if I eat beans, I have to have full fat, extra fat,

lots of fat! I don't care how they are prepared, if they aren't

dripping with fat, I can't eat them. I do the same thing... feel

bloated and need a bed.

Hi ,

I had some avocado and sour cream with them. I do not eat any grains at

all as I generally react the way these beans affected me. I am normally

a high-energy gal. I was a fitness instructor for 2 decades and have

very steady energy low carb - by low I mean generally less than 70 grams

a day.

For breakfast I had three small pieces of sashimi, 2 tablespoons kimchi,

and two hard cooked eggs. My stomach was empty when I ate the beans.

Well, , I had a half a small avocado and a tablespoon of full fat

sour cream. I should perhaps just have eaten that without the beans. I

mean, when my food does this sort of thing to me now, I can't believe I

was ever a vegetarian. It's like I was poisoned with a sedative, it was

quick and profound. And my kids ate it and listened to Victor Hugo on

audio tape while I zonked out with the kitten for 30 minutes.

Now, I have had fasting blood sugar in the 90s back in the spring, but I

am sure I am more insulin sensitive now. Not that it was too bad, but

Mercola says 87 is the number to shoot for.

Maybe I'll get " lucky " and have gas later on. Oh boy. I think you hit

it on the nail, though. Dairy doesn't bother me at all, but otherwise I

am basically a vegetable and animal food eater. I don't care for sweets

much. Probably a shock in such a concentrated dose. Also, I think when

I have eaten beans or lentils, it has been at night, so maybe I am not

realizing the energy zap as it wanes in the evening anyway. Or maybe

it's age.

I wonder if maybe it IS that you're basically on a paleo diet normally. I am

too, and when I prepared navy beans exactly as you prepared the pinto beans,

(from NT), and ate them, I decided never to do it again, like you. Only I had

horrendous gas! And, navy beans are supposed to be " Highly Beneficial " for my

blood type - B, as well.

Oh, you reminded me. I ate some pickled ginger from a restaurant last

night and it tasted weird. It might have been aspartame, because I

haven't had that in a long time, but I thought it might be that Splenda

crap (chlorinated sugar) and told the gang to leave it alone.

Has anyone tasted Splenda? What is it like?

You know, I feel like it's not even safe to eat out anymore. I

generally don't, but it is a convenience once a quarter, albeit an

expensive one.

It sure sounds like a hypoglycemic episode, huh? They say that

exercise helps reverse/counteract insulin resistance. You sure don't

sound insulin resistant! You seem to have a trigger-happy pancreas!

If it were me, I might try it again with a LOT of additional fat.

Maybe I'd try cooking the beans with salt pork or fatty beef ribs or

bacon or lard. I need to make some beans soon. I might throw in

some leftover pot roast with attached fat. DH won't eat pork, so

I'll have to use some kind of beef.

I wonder how you would do with traditional (made-with-lard) refried

beans? With cheese on top!

I know! Put your beans in some nice, greasy chili!

P.S. You know, there are a lot of groups where they would ride me

out of town on a rail if they caught me suggesting all this fatty

food! ;-)

I don't know exactly ... I'm beginning to agree with the Paleo folks

that beans are " iffy " . Though they seem to have all this good

stuff in them (like folic acid) they don't set well with my family

always either. Lentils ARE much better, plus they are faster to

prepare.

As far as sleepiness ... I do much better eating WD style, with

very little for lunch (fruit, salad). Starch of any kind increases

your serotonin level, which puts you to sleep. Once during

an allergy test I had a baked potato, no butter or oil, and it

totally knocked me out. For curing jet lag, they recommend

eating starch just before bedtime. So I try to avoid starch

during the day. And I eat my meat before I eat whatever

starch I am having (or at least WITH it), so it digests slower.

Plus I tend to fry the starch (hash browns ...)

Thanks Heidi. As usually, you have a nice twist on things. Serotonin

may well be a factor here in my normally starch-free world. Warrior

diet. My, but that website is awfully commercial now. Of course, it is

true, I do well with this basic routine. Most animals feed once a day,

after all. I find that I do best with some good protein/fat in the

morning, salad at lunch. Actually, I do quite well fasting completely

all day. But, like my hero Enig, Ph.D, I like me coffee with cream

in the morning. That alone begs for food. Praps when I am back on tea,

several hours without food would do the wonders for me it has in the past.

Yes, next time I will go hit the trail when I eat some beans, lol. But

I'll wait until December, I think. I like thew chili idea: Lots of

meat, toms, peppers, onion, garlic, spices, and a few bean sprinkles

Hey Girl. I'm goin' for it. Vacation starts manana for us. I shall

not feel bound to the " food with coffee " mentality and will report back

to ya. Personally, though, I like a green salad bast of anything in the

whole wide world.

We happen to be very similar about food, body things, methinks.
