Guest guest
Hi, Cheryl, Oh, yes. We have lots of listmates who are adults and using LOD for other conditions. I am starting to list some of those conditions and the science behind the relevance of oxalate to those conditions if you'll look on the research pages on lowoxalate.info. Originally, the adults trying this diet were parents of children with autism, but as they talked about what was changing for them on LOD, word got out, and now we are seeing people coming from all over. I think in adults the issues tend more to be in autoimmune and chronic pain and chronic disease areas where people are seeing improvements. We have had a big import of people with celiac disease, for instance. One adult listmate just answered a poll about what constitutes " dumping " symptoms. " Dumping " is a term for the onslaught of symptoms that occurs when we are thinking the body is clearing oxalates from places where they have been stored. We do have occasional GPL OATS done on people with high oxalate during these times, and the level is high even though they have been on a low oxalate diet for months and months, so we assume the oxalate is coming from body stores. These types of reports hardly consititutes proof of the process, but right now, it is about as much as we have. What is more important is the changes that people are seeing in their lives. The adult reporting today said her dumping symptoms lasted for five months, and varied in their expression, but the conditions she was trying to treat were: Physical: persistent diarrhea, urinary frequentcy, shortness of breath, tightness in neck and jaw, itchiness, ringing in ears, swollen gums. Mental: paranoia, persistant thoughts, visual disturbances. This is what she has said has improved: I am much more functional both physically and mentally now. The chronic pain is much much less/gone some days. The constant diarrhea is gone. I find this diet to be the single most effective thing I have ever tried for the array of symptoms I was facing on a daily basis. I wish I had discovered it years earlier! I keep things definitely very very low 15-30ox. With vitamin c at aprox. 150. (I find that no matter how low, if I get too much vit. c it really bothers me.) One thing that is clear about LOD is that it produces changes in adults that look just the same as what we see in children. That has been great news! The only thing I can think of that we haven't seen also happening in adults is the big improvements in growth we've seen in some of the children who had not changed a pants size in a couple of years, and then suddenly grew three to five inches on LOD! >Hi , >I have a friend that is trying to find some answers to her gut issues >and other issues as well but I'm wondering if you have any >information on oxalates and adults? > >Thanks >Cheryl > Internal Virus Database is out-of-date.
