Guest guest
Hello, I'm new to the group. My 4 yr old son was diagnosed with Asperger's just a few months ago. He will start Kindergarten at Coulson Tough Elementary next fall. Does anyone have any experience with this school or Conroe ISD that would help to prepare me for what's to come? In searching the old posts there seems to be a wide range of experiences with the district. Thank you!
Guest guest
: My daughter will be 4 in December. She was diagnosed with autism when she was 2 ½ and has been attending the PPCD program at Bush Elementary within Conroe ISD since she was 3. We have had a great experience with the school district. When we went to have her evaluated with CISD, they even paid to have me bring her for a diagnosis by an awesome psychologist in Houston who was more helpful to us than the developmental pediatrician or psychologist we had paid for ourselves. The teacher we have at Bush is outstanding. Although my daughter was originally diagnosed as autistic, her most recent diagnosis was PPD-NOS. She’s pretty high functioning at this point, although speech and potty training are still big issues for us. I credit her ABA therapy and supplements with most of this progress, but I do feel the PPCD program has been a big part of it too. I should mention that she only attends PPCD two days a week because she’s pretty busy with her ABA therapy. Another thing I’m so pleased with the school district about is that they have been extremely flexible with us in allowing her to attend only part time. Have you had your son evaluated by the school district yet? I can give you the phone number of the person to call. It would seem to me that he might qualify for a PPCD program right now. The PPCD programs within the Woodlands run ½ days 5 days a week and might help prepare your son for Kindergarten. I know the PPCD class at Bush does some inclusion activities with the Kindergarten class there for the kids who will be transitioning to Kindergarten the following year. I know services can vary by school and I’m not sure which PPCD school Coulson Tough would feed into, but it’s worth a try. Please feel free to email me off list mwaybright@... or give me a call at . I don’t live too far from you, so we could even meet at a park someday with the kids (I have twins, so I have a son that’s almost 4 too). _____ From: Texas-Autism-Advocacy [mailto:Texas-Autism-Advocacy ] On Behalf Of kgbernst Sent: Sunday, September 17, 2006 12:40 AM To: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Subject: Conroe ISD/Coulson Tough Info Needed Hello, I'm new to the group.
