Guest guest
Tuesday, September 19th from 7-9 p.m. the A-F-P autism parent support group will have their first meeting of the school year. This will be our first meeting with a new format of a more traditional parent support group, with parents discussing issues, giving their insights and helping other parents. Our topic this month will be on advocacy, state issues and Medicaid waivers. Joining us to help mediate/guide/ inform will be Drew Dixon from the ARC of Dallas who will be able to give us insight on the different advocacy groups in TX and what state issues they are working on and Nagla Alvin, an active parent in the autism community from Plano with lots of " been there done that " parent knowledge on the services from the state and the various Medicaid waivers. This will be a valuable meeting for everyone. We so often over look these complicated and tangled up state issues in the hopes that it will all just work out... But we need to talk to each other and truly begin to understand these various medicaid waivers, which ones apply to our individual children and how they can help support our children. I hope folks can get away from all the homework, and the just plain craziness for awhile and join us for a cup of coffee, some sweets with the only folks who truly understand 'our' world - PARENTS of children with autism. ***The meeting will be held at Suncreek United Methodist Church in , TX. Located off of McDermott between Alma and Custer - 1517 McDermott Dr. (below is a map to the church) http://www.suncreekumc.org/map/suncreekmap.htm Much love, Liz tscillian@...
