Guest guest
Sounds to me like it's the Valtrex. These are the types of things we saw when we started Valtrex *alone*. Runny nose, cough and acne rash could be die off from either. It could also be unrelated but I doubt it.CherylWe are on day 9 of Valtrex/Nizoral. 2 days ago my son got a terrible runny nose, constant cough and the acne rash on his face has gotten worse. We had similar issues when we started ThreeLac 7 months ago (Still on ThreeLac). Is this yeast die off?On the positive side, we have seen amazing gains in the last 4 days in expressive language, cognitive thinking, and imaginative play which our DAN attributes to the Valtrex.Does this mean the Valtrex is working? Or is this all just yeast related, both the die-off and gains?Since the rash/acne/pox can worsen with both yeast and virus die off it is hard for me to tell. Thanks to all,
Guest guest
Thank you Cheryl. Last night and still this morning he has a temp of between 100-101. I am not giving Motrin as he is in good spirits and I hope this is his body fighting off the virus (He has Roseola, Herpes 6 IgM) Did you have a similar experience? Thanks, > > > We are on day 9 of Valtrex/Nizoral. 2 days ago my son got a terrible > > runny nose, constant cough and the acne rash on his face has gotten > > worse. > > > > We had similar issues when we started ThreeLac 7 months ago (Still > > on ThreeLac). > > > > Is this yeast die off? > > > > On the positive side, we have seen amazing gains in the last 4 days > > in expressive language, cognitive thinking, and imaginative play > > which our DAN attributes to the Valtrex. > > > > Does this mean the Valtrex is working? Guest guest
IgM means that he actually does have an *active* case of Roseola and not just having sky high titers so he should have a rash and a fever. Sounds right to me. When testing titers, there are different things to look at and IgM means that there's an actual infection that the body *is* currently fighting, not a latent infection that is causing immune dysfunction. It's all very confusing, I know. :)cherylThank you Cheryl. Last night and still this morning he has a temp of between 100-101. Guest guest
--- Hi Cheryl, This is confusing. Our DAN doctor ran the NeuroImmunology autism short panel that checked IgG and IgM for Measles, Herpes 6 and Streptococcal M Proteins. He tested positive IgG for Measles and Strep but negative IgM. She said that just meant that he haas been vaccinated for MMR (which he has) and that he had had a previous strep infection. She didn't say either of these were concerning but it sounds like they could be based on the titer number? He was IgG 32.1 for measles and IgG 71.2 for strep. The Roseola IgG is 101 and IgM 98. It is an active infection, but latent enough that it did not show any abnormality on CBC w/diff or any other bloodwork. Should I be concerned about the Strep and Measles titers? I appreciate so much your experience and advice!! Guest guest
To be completely honest, I don't know much about the strep and measles titers. My son's ASO was negative and we didn't run measles titers so I can't say whether you should be concerned or not. IgG titers tell you if there was ever a vaccination or infection so your DAN is right about that. IgM means it's active if it's positive. As far as how high is too high? - I really don't know with strep or measles. Maybe someone else on the list can step up on this one. My familiarity is strictly with HHV titers.Your lab reports differently than I'm accustomed to as far as the HHV6 titers. What is the reference range? My son's titers are reported as 1:640 so I think we would need to see what the reference range is in order to figure out if how high it actually is. The other thing to consider is that you may need to pull titers again in say, 6 months, to see if the titers are still high *after* an active infection.Cheryl--- Hi Cheryl,This is confusing. Guest guest
Btw, how high were your ASO titers? Something to know is that if ASO titers are really high - you may be looking at PANDAS.cherylTo be completely honest, I don't know much about the strep and measles titers. Guest guest
Today my son has a large spot on his gum that is white. It looks like a canker sore only not as round, it is rectangular shape and spans the gums under two of his bottom teeth. We are on day 11 of Valtrex/Nizoral. Is this some type of die off? How in the world do you tell if it is from yeast or the Herpes virus? I wish I knew what was working. Our DAN said she thought his cold like symptoms, cough, congestion, low grade fever and facial rash were viral die off from the Valtrex. Thanks to all of you who have replied on this. I am grateful for all of the experienced parents on this site. Guest guest
Antistreptolysin O titer (ASO) is a strep antibodies test. PANDAS is not caused by strep itself but the over and constant production of antibodies. On your lab results it will say either ASO or the full name.CherylHi Cheryl,I am not sure what the ASO titer is. Can you enlighten me?
