Guest guest
How long was the EEG? EEG’s that are done for short periods of time can only capture a seizure if it happens during the test. Doesn’t mean your child is not having seizures. You could look into getting a spect scan. Clenched Fists.. My 15 month old had a reaction to the hib vaccine 3 months ago. An hour after that horrible shot, he clenched both fists, face turned red and his head shook slightly for about 30 seconds. I now think that was a seizure. We saw the clenched fists frequently over the next month….it was as though he fisted as opposed to pointed. The DAN dr chalked it up to temper related. I was fearing seizures due to him looking blankly every so often in his high chair We also noted his pupils dilating then retracting. They were dilated more frequently than they were restricted. I read a story eerily similar w/ the fists and pupils in Dr. Rimland's Recovering Autistic Children, and was convinced we had seizures. We had an EEG, which surprisingly revealed nothing. I had started him on Activated B6, Magnesium and Taurine in the event he was having them, discontinued them after the EEG was clear…and the fists had disappeared. Over the last couple days I have seen the fists again. The newest additions to our treatment are the MB12 shots and Threelac. I've read that allergic foods can cause seizures, but they were unable to pull blood from our chubby lil thing, so we are in the dark on what he's allergic to…hope to be succ essful next month with the igG. Any advice is much appreciated. Just checking to see if anyone has had a similar experience. If a child develops seizure disorder is it gradual or immediately following those horrible vaccinations? I thought with EEG's they can sometimes tell if a child is even prone to having them? Seizures? Clenched Fists.. My 15 month old had a reaction to the hib vaccine 3 months ago. Guest guest
The way they do EEG's now the chances are good that they will catch them. They hyperventilate them and also stimulate with lights while the EEG is ongoing so even though they are short, they are mostly thorough. However, some children only have seizures while sleeping. And sometimes there are abnormalities on the EEG but not enough to meet their criteria for a seizure so the parent is told the EEG was normal. We insisted on watching the EEG when ours had it done. For the above reasons if you have a child that you strongly suspect has seizures, then ask first, to see the actual EEG and ask the ped neuro to see other EEG's of normal kids and compare them. Then ask for a 24 hour EEG which will catch any sleep seizures. Seizures? Clenched Fists.. My 15 month old had a reaction to the hib vaccine 3 months ago. Guest guest
I think Christel King once told that her son’s once started seizure while EEG testing and the screen stayed flat...not very efficient stuff. Guest guest
my son had 3 small seizers while doing a 24 Hour EEG, they said his was normal. he didn't have big ones because he was OFF gluten which his are gluten triggered. for 2 weeks at that point. he had 2 of them surrounding cereal, and one while sleeping.....he had 3 infront of his ped which got them in his file 2 in 30 min after being given a sticker in which I couldn't get there fast enough before he touched the back. my ped actually pointed it out to me, did you see that, that was an absent seizer. I wanted to scream after I had been telling him for 2 years that we had these ANY TIME HE HAD ANY CONTACT WITH GLUTEN touch, inhalation, topical, or injested......but it IS in the record now Seizures? Guest guest
First of all, find a new DAN! doctor. Not all of them are the real devotees of DAN! that we'd hope. Second, any test: EEG, blood draws, urine, any test can only test what is present during the test. A kid can have a good day during an EEG and test negative, then go home and have dozens of seizures. I trust your take on it. Thirdly, some parents of kids who have seizures and get MB12, have reported a slight increase in seizures for the first few months. This happened to my dgs. He had more seizures, then, suddenly, he had far fewer. He was on seizure meds so it was misunderstood until they took him off MB12, and all the seizures returned, in spite of the seizure medication."k.trev" wrote: My 15 month old had a reaction to the hib vaccine 3 months ago. Guest guest
It's bizarre...if he hears me talk about the clenched fists to my husband (if I am recalling an epsiode)...he'll clench up, so I know it can be behavioral at times...but others seem uncontrollable. Were your son's grand mal or petit and is he still on seizure med? Are children that have seizures not candidates for chelation since it's a possible side effect? THe removal of the MB12 caused them to return? thanks > My 15 month old had a reaction to the hib vaccine 3 months ago. Guest guest
I'd be willing to bet that like my grandson, your son's seizures are triggered by both diet and anxiety. That would explain his seizures when he hears you discussing them. Our boy has absence and complex partial seizures. They are both made worst by gluten and corn.
