The " Helping Parents Prepare for an ARD meeting " by Missy Olive is available

on DVD from last year.

Hope to see you there.

Texas State Conference on Autism

My husband and I are teaming up (or splitting apart?) to attend the

following sessions:

Day 1 (Thursday) – All of them, since they run sequentially

Day 2 (Friday):

Session 202 – Why Are Parents Turning to Alternative Treatments…..

Session 204 – Conflict Resolution….

Session 216 – Using IDEA for Proactive Participation…..

Day 3 (Saturday:

Session 304 – Grooming Good Community Skills….

Session 306 – Critical Connections…

We will do our best to take good enough notes to share.

We were also very interested in the following sessions, but

obviously, can't be in more than one place at a time! If any of you

are planning to attend any of these sessions, please also try to

take " shareable " notes, and perhaps we can do a note-sharing pow-wow

after the conference:

Friday (Day 2)

Session 201 – Helping Parents Prepare for ARD meetings

Session 203 – " Autism, A Family Affair "

Session 208 – What Typical Language Development can teach us….

Session 209 – The ILAUGH model…

Session 213 – IEP's and Data Collection

Session 215 – Healthcare Issues for parents and teachers….

Saturday (Day 3)

, Hi I'm also. We met at parent to parent a few weeks ago. Please

share any info with me from the conference. I can't attend because my son who

has autism is also having many seizures. Good luck.

their notes. , is that OK?

Hi, I just received your message about going to the Texas State Conference

on Autism. I am not going to be able to attend, however, I am very

interested in hearing what they have to say in #223 - Asperger 101. My son

was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome about 3 months ago and we have been

trying to get him " labeled " in a private school through Klein School

District. Wow, I never had any idea there was so much to learn about

school. I thought you just sent them and helped with homework!

Hi All - I am brand new to the group and on the front row of the

front end of the learning curve. My 6 year old son (kindergarten)was

finally diagnosed PDD last spring. Wish I had known about the Autism

Conference. Tonya, would you post to the group info on how we might

order the CD/ DVD or whatever else is available to those who could

not attend? Thanks at bunch!!

Hi Debbie, welcome aboard; it's a great group!

I haven't seen any filming of the sessions but every attendee got a CD

with all the handouts though. I'd try contacting the autism specialist

at your local ESC http://autism.esc2.net/consult.asp . They should have

been to the conference and gotten one. If that doesn't work, contact

Dr. Patti Huskin, or phuskin@... .

The conference is an annual event. Next year it's September 6-8 in

Corpus Christi so mark your calendar now. Your ESC should help with

parent stipends. I know mine paid for my hotel room for the last two

years. Your child's school should also help under the parent training

portion of the autism supplement. If you want the actual statute for

it, look in the files section of this group under 89.1055.

Your ESC should also have trainings on Autism. They will most likely be

geared towards teachers, but will be available to parents also. I've

attended many at ESC-17!

The Autism Society of America may have a chapter in your area. The list

for Texas is at

http://209.200.89.252/search_site/chapter_list.cfm?program_name= & state=T

X. The chapters are a great place to learn and get support from parents

that have already been where you are now.

FEAT also has a couple of chapters in Texas. Look for them on the right

side of the page at http://www.feat.org

If you're willing to post the general area you're in folks on the list

can give you more specific resources. Me, I'm in West TX, out near

Lubbock.

Take care,

Tonya
