Biden's F-bomb

On Tuesday, U.S. President Barack Obama signed the historic health-care reform

bill in Washington. Democrats were feeling pretty festive, chief among them it

would seem, Vice-President Joe Biden. In an effusive speech introducing the

president, he went on and on about how hard Obama had worked, how he stayed true

to his values, how he followed his passion and achieved what many great men and

women before him had failed to do. He talked about making history, even quoting

the poet Virgil. When he finished gushing, he turned, embraced Obama and into

his ear with the mics still hot, said: " This is a big f-ing deal. "

Whether or not Obama was phased in any way by this is unclear. He was smiling

before Biden's remark and remained so as he approached the podium to speak.

Presumably he was thinking, 'Really? Until you punctuated your seven-minute

speech with that profane exclamation I wasn't sure just how important this

really was.'

Fox News was apparently first out of the gate to share the f-bomb episode with

the world on Twitter. White House spokesman Gibbs added his own tweet.

Official transcripts of the event do not include Biden's remark, since

apparently he was officially off mic at the time. But you can hear the uncut

version on C-SPAN.org. The comment got plenty of traction on blogs and yes,

someone has already made T-shirts.
