North Fulton Autism Support Group Meeting

Topic: “Update on Autism Spectrum Disorders: From Diagnosis to

Intervention”

Dr. Walter’s talk will cover some of the information from the new

DSM-V diagnostic criteria for ASD's, including the proposed, new instruments

for making these diagnoses; the comorbid (co-occurring disorders)of ASD's and

why it's important to have these diagnosed and treated; and some practical

strategies for treatment.

Speaker: L. Warren Walter, Ph.D.

Neuropsychologist

Dr. Warren Walter received his Ph.D. in child clinical

psychology from Georgia

State University

in 1990, having specialized in pediatric neuropsychology. He is in private

practice in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Walter speaks

nationally about Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity

Disorder, and other neuropsychological disorders, and how they affect learning,

behavior, personality, and development. Dr. Walter is on the Scientific

Advisory Board of the Tourette Syndrome Association of Georgia, and on the

Medical Advisory Board of the Southern California Tourette Syndrome

Association.

Before becoming a psychologist, Dr. Walter taught middle

school for five years in self-contained learning disabled and behavior

disorder/severely emotionally disturbed classrooms. This was an invaluable

experience that helped him bridge the gap between psychology and education.

Dr. Walter has 30 years= experience

working with young people.
