Jordan Cummings (16), of Birch Lane, Glenfarg, was also ordered to pay £200 compensation. His actions were condemned by Sheriff McCreadie. He described the accused's culpable and reckless conduct as " utterly reprehensible " . He added: " You hit the windscreen in front of the driver. That is beyond all reasonable belief. " The incident took place in Station Road, Kinross, about 6.30pm on January 16, during the prolonged bout of freezing weather. Depute fiscal said that the driver had set off from Kinross, heading for Glenrothes. His route took him along Station Road where he saw the accused and two of his friends. The pair picked up some snowballs from the pavement and threw them at the bus but the driver did not pay much attention to them. But Cummings then picked up a " sizeable piece of ice " – he needed two hands to lift it – and threw it towards the bus. It struck and shattered the windscreen but luckily the flying glass missed the driver, although he was distracted. The court heard that there were no passengers on board at the time. The accused then ran off but was later traced by police. " He admitted he had been responsible and apologised for his behaviour, " added Mr . A solicitor for the accused said: " There's no getting away from the fact that he has been an idiot. " She added that Cummings suffered from Asperger's Syndrome and claimed he had not known what he was doing. He had kept out of trouble for the past four months, however. Sheriff McCreadie noted that a background report referred to the accused as a " binge drinker " . He then caused " mayhem " in the community after downing cheap alcohol. But the Sheriff told Cummings: " This won't be tolerated. You need a short, sharp shock. "
