Guest guest
Clinton tried that. Throwing missiles around didn't really accomplish much, other than to hit a few targets that caused us trouble, like that pharmaceutical plant we blew. Reliance on missiles also caused us to blow up abandoned camps and other times would possibly have been a war crime, like the time a ship was ordered to fire missiles into a city to hit a suspected bin Lauden hideout. The strike never came off and its a good thing because Bin Lauden wasn't there and if the strike had been fired, hundreds of civilians could have been killed. The result of this missile diplomacy was to make the US look weak and only encouraged Bin Lauden and others. When they hit us and we shot some ineffectual missiles back, that only encouraged them more. Chavez might have some bunkers, but we could hit him outside of them easily enough. The thing is though that this would be called an assassination and the world would turn against the US. Right now Chavez, like many other left wing kooks, are the darling leaders in the world, moreso than even Obama. Bush should have supported the coup that put Chavez out of power, but no, Bush was too ardent an believer in Democracy: even though Chavez was a tyrant and threat to the US, he was elected so that had to be respected. The way I see it is the world is gearing up for another bought of mass insanity that had been suppressed for 60 years by threat of nuclear annihilation. I think once we start to really stumble or fall, all these little tin pot types are going to run wild until that spirals into a global war. maybe not a global war like WWII with two sides, but lots of little sides fighting regional wars and thus disrupting the whole world economy. This would include an internal collapse of China or maybe a war between China and India or China vs. Russia. That latter would be very nasty. In a message dated 4/3/2010 11:27:10 A.M. In Central and South America, this could mean underneath the jungle where we could hardly tell anything is in existence, unless it is by some kind of heat detection satelite.Administrator

" I think we have two choices here: 1) Bug out of the world and let someone else stick their noses in to handle all these problems, or 2) Go whole hog. If we throw in a missile and it misses a target, we ought to have the guts to say " If you don't want that sort of thing happening in your country, then throw the terrorists out.
