Guest guest
I used to live around Carmel, IN. I'm originally from Zionsville (which is only like 5-10 mins. away in Boone county). Carmel and Zionsville both have fabulous schools. If you can afford it, Park Tudor is a great private school. Here's the link to Park Tudor http://www.parktudor.org/Pages/default.aspx. To find the special needs, click on the Hilbert Early Education link. Another great school is the one I went to, Heritage Christian. They have a Discovery program for children with ADD/ADHD/Autism/Dyslexia. http://www.heritagechristian.net/adminDept2.aspx?aid=46. To find the Discovery program, click on the ESS link on the top. The teachers I had there were the best I ever had. In all honesty, the public schools in Carmel/Zionsville are great, but if you want a really good education that have a better program for special needs, your best bet is to go with either Heritage or Park Tudor. Both schools have financial aid programs if you need them. As far as support systems go, a great organization in Indy is AAI (Autism Advocates of IN). Their website is http://www.aaiwalk.org. They're based right out of Indy and have meetings and all kinds of resources for families with Autism. Also, there's a TACA chapter a little outside of Indy in Nobelsville. The link http://meetup.talkaboutcuringautism.org/indiana/index.html. I hear great things about the Hands in Autism at Riley Children's Hospital in Indy. You can check them out here http://www.handsinautism.org/index.htmHonestly, when I lived in Indy Autism was still like 1 in 10,000 children. I'm sure a lot has changed since I was growing up in Indy. The schools I gave the links to are two of the very best with phenomenal programs for special needs/Early Education. As far as the whole support system goes, I'm sure a lot has changed since I was a kid. When I was growing up, there wasn't a whole lot for my mom to choose from. It was pretty much stick me in a private school (Heritage) that would give me the help I needed and put me on meds. Hope the links help and that I helped a little. I have lived in Atlanta my entire life (strange I know) and am a little freaking out. Does anyone here have experiences there? Do you know what areas are good for schools (we were told Carmel - Hamilton Co) any ideas about autism support and how their system works there? 's 4, he's going to be in SN PreK full day this year. Do they have that there? He did SN PreK 3 years 1/2 day last year. We're in the N. Fulton Co school system now. I am guessing we'll be moving by end of July. My husband will be there as of next week communiting every other week between. Any advice?? Sheila 4
