New Madrid Fault Comes Through! Yesterday's Earthquake Felt 200 Kilometers Away

By Chad Garrison in Follow That Story, NewsWed., Mar. 3 2010 @ 8:46AM

It was just a week ago that Daily RFT reported that the New Madrid fault in

southeast Missouri was overdue for an earthquake. And yesterday, New Madrid

delivered with a 3.7 magnitude quake felt as far away as Alton, Illinois.

Granted the tremor wasn't the " significant " earthquake of over 6.0 that some

geologists say is long overdue at New Madrid, and there's no debate underway to

rename the faultline " Old Faithful " , but still!

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that no damage occurred as a result of the

earthquake.
