My son work at this clinic for 4 years now.I'm very happy! I used to live at Kennesaw.I moved to Six Flags but still going their for speech. She kind of just follows him around our house and repeats whatever he touches, hoping he will say say the word. I am no expert, but I do not think that is an effective way to have a speech session (at least it is not effective for my son). I think a little more structure is needed, but know that is not the current SLP's style. Guest guest Posted March 5, 2010 Report Share Posted March 5, 2010 we use an SLP at children's healthcare of Atlanta satellite clinic near Kennestone Hospital. we're new to this clinic but happy so far. You might find that going to a clinic provides more structure v. therapy in the home. it may be easier for your son to see that he needs to work when he goes to the clinic v. at home. good luck! We have Blue Shield Blued Cross HMO insurance and the insurance approved 20 sesions for speech and ocupational therapies for my son las year before we knew he was autistic. Now that we have a diagnoses we are taking him again to Children Healthcare of Atlanta satellite blvd office and they ask for his IEP from special education to submit the request to the insurance company to cover 20 more sesions of speech theraphy because the insurance company alredy approved 20 for ocupational for this year. Do you think the insurance will approve the therapies knowing that my son is autistic?.What type of insurance do you use to cover the therapies because the therapist from children's hospital are saying that the goals from school (IEP) and their goals are the same and that may be the reason from the hospital to refuse to provide the services of speech and ocupational therapies.They will say that my son can not receive duplicate services but it is my insurance the one that may pay for that and he school they will provide a group therapy which is not the same that 1-1 therapy. Could you please comment about how you got accepted services from Childrens hospital. I really appreciated. I have a meeting with them next week and I have the feeling they will denied the services saying because their goals and the school goals are the same they can not provide the same service. Any comments will be appreciated. Guest guest Posted March 6, 2010 Report Share Posted March 6, 2010 I am not sure of what specifics there are in your situation, you would only know that, but have you tried having your son meet her in a "therapy seeting" as well to facilitate generalization. Although I am aware that children with Autism don't deal well with change, maybe he could benefit from a formal setting in addition to the home based therapy. When I am doing home based teaching for ESY versus the school environment, I see a totally different child. Since he has everything at his fingertips at home, the motivation may or may not be there to access language(b/c it is on his turf), but if he were in a situation where the therapist could establish the operation(or provide the motivator), he might increase the approximations to more. Guest guest Posted March 6, 2010 Report Share Posted March 6, 2010 i work for a hospital and our insurance plan is self funded. until about a year ago our plan didn't cover autism at all. i worked with our VP, director of HR and exec team and now it is a covered diagnosis for all services - including ABA. Cigna did not want to pay for his Speech Therapy because he has speech at school. I had to appeal the decision and I was able to have the insurance covering speech again.The same thing happen when I had Blue Shield Blued Cross HMO but with OT.
