Guest guest
Since Emma only had the one baby and her udder is SO LARGE (actually it has been for awhile) I thought I'd milk her out a little this morning. Well her right side is wonderful and she is a beautiful milker. Totally just stood there and let me do it, even turned back and kissed me a few times, HA!!!!!! Anyway.....her left udder has mastitis I think. The milk was clumpy and spurted out. Once the chunks came out I got a few nice clean looking squirts and then I'd get some more clumps. She doenst seem to be in pain but I need to know what to do for her. Should I let her baby nurse off of her if she has mastitis? ~ a ~www.farmgirlhaven.comwww.homesteadblogger.com/MyFarmgirlHaven/http://my.tupperware.com/ROBERTA67
Guest guest
You need to milk out your goats twice a day to keep an eye on what's going on. Every goat, every day. A single kid won't be hungry enough to take milk but from one side until they are several weeks old. Some will NEVER nurse but from that one 'chosen' side. I have had triplets who flat refused to nurse but one side- nothing wrong with other side, they just all got 'hooked' at birth on that one teat and momma was real dairy goat. Chunky milk by itself is not always an indication of mastitis. I would do as has been suggested- milk out the side as often as you can. If you could do it every two hours? That would be great.
