Guest guest
The primary reason animals and their parasites were more balanced in "olden times" was that the animals were seldom kept in confinement as we must keep them now. Free range was the norm and unless there was a serious threat, young children took the animals out daily to graze or browse. So the milk goats and cows and sheep could eat things that kept the balance (including minerals), plus they didn't stay their whole lives on ground that became increasingly infested with parasite eggs/larvae. This is still how it's done in many places. If you have only a few animals, it is much easier to use the natural wormers successfully. I've been using the FAMACHA method with my goats for a few months now, and so far I'm very pleased. It's hard to break the old routine worming habit, and I want to see how my milkers do next spring with the March parasite bloom, but so far so good. To help the raw milk "movement" in states where sales are currently illegal, keep a drumbeat of contact with your politicians that this is a food choice and you want to be able to reasonably access natural milk. Have your facts together, give them resources and links, be concise, not hysterical. All us "nuts" vote, but politicians like to think they're voters aren't nuts, if you get my drift.
