And foreign powers will be after those resources, too. China in particular needs minerals to keep its industry going and with many minerals becoming scarce, like silver and some others, new sources would tempt them. China has a small border with Afghanistan fight now and there is a road network in Tajikistan they might link up to. As I've said, China is already looking at Siberia and they might think Afghanistan is safer, particularly since they might be able to bribe or otherwise cajole contracts to mine the resources. The locals might not like that too much, whatever foreigners come to mine, nor the military forces there to protect the workers and kit. Things could get interesting there.
