Meeting Topic: From Autism SLP to ASD Mom

and Tips for Improving Communication with Your Child

Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 2-4 p.m.

Hyperbaric Therapy Center

104 Colony Park Drive, Suite 500, Cumming, GA 30041

Speaker: Meredith White, SLP

Meredith White is a unique speech-language pathologist (SLP) in that she not

only serves children with a vast variety of communication needs, she is also the

mother of a child with autism and step-mother to children with articulation-,

phonological processing-, auditory processing-, and sensory integration

disorder. Meredith has first-hand knowledge of the range of emotions and

experiences familiar to parents of children with special needs.

Meredith graduated from Florida State University with her B.S. and from Georgia

State University with her M.Ed. in Communication Disorders in 1998. After

externships at the Emory University Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, the

Atlanta Area School for the Deaf and in private clinics, Meredith served six

years in the school systems of Fulton and Rockdale Counties and eight years with

her own pediatric home health private practice under her maiden name: Brand

Speech Pathology, Inc.

When Meredith began working with the early intervention (EI) population in 2000

she had no children with autism on her caseload. By 2005, about 75% of her

caseload consisted of children on the autism spectrum. In an effort to best

serve her clients, Meredith began DIR/Floortime training first through Floortime

Atlanta (2005) and then through the national seminar in Tyson's Corner, VA,

taught by the developer of DIR/Floortime, Dr. Stanley Greenspan. Two months

later Meredith conceived her only biological child, who is on the autism

spectrum disorder.

In 2010, Meredith returned to Atlanta to once again pursue her love of working

with children of all ages. Meredith constantly researches efficacious therapy

practices and attends workshops to improve her skills. She now provides therapy

in the natural environment through Meredith White Speech Pathology, Inc and

serves as Supervising Therapist at Aurora Strategies, an alternative school

specializing in research based interventions for students with learning

disorders, autism spectrum, speech-language impairment, CAPD and ADHA.
