Thanks, Agro-Terrorism training- Jan. 23-25, 2007 at UT in Knoxville, TN Livestock orgs. would fall under 'appropriate trade associations'- this is a great opportunity to b part of the solution- PLEASE PASS THIS ON! *************************************** Preparedness and Response to Agricultural Terrorism Jan. 23-25, 2007 University of Tennessee Program delivered by Louisiana State University, National Center for Biomedical Research and Training Hosted by the Center for Agriculture and Food Security and Preparedness, UT College of Veterinary Medicine The Preparedness and Response to Agricultural Terrorism course provides community planners as well as those in the food production chain, who would be among the first to note the effects of an attempted attack on the nation's food supply, with information to identify and recruit individuals in a unique position to identify potential threats to the cultivation, production, processing, transportation, or distribution of the nation's food supply. Key members of community planning teams include supervisors dealing with food production, transportation, delivery, final distribution and emergency planners from state and local governments would benefit from this course. Course length is three 8 hour days. Participants must be US Citizens. Identification is required. This course will provide community members with competency in the following areas: .. Ability to recognize possible targets of opportunity in their region .. Understand the resources that may be available within the community/region .. Develop and present a comprehensive response plan for their region .. Develop an infrastructure of community sources .. Develop a plan to identify, collect, and share information with state and federal agencies Target Audience: Community emergency planners are part of the front line defense in attacks to the nation's food supply. In addition to emergency response workers, an attack on the nation's food supply would involve: .. Agricultural business .. Elected/appointed officials .. Regulatory/enforcement agencies .. Appropriate trade associations .. Related industries .. Research/extension services .. Public utilities .. Disaster planners .. Homeland Security Officials .. Office of Emergency Management .. Emergency response community .. Medical Community .. Public Health Officials .. Veterinarians .. Wildlife Officials .. Public Information Officers (PIO) .. *Limited funds are available for overtime and backfill support for veterinarians and extension agents to attend this course. Funds will be provided on a first-come, first serve basis and are provided by a grant from the District 2 Homeland Security Council.
