That's always fun, especially at night. We get those a few times per year here.

Emergency Management Ontario advises all southern Ontario residents to take

precautions; line of severe thunderstorms from Stoney Lake to Lake Simcoe

Posted By REG WATSON/Examiner Night Editor

A tornado warning issued by Environment Canada was extended at 9:41 p.m.

Wednesday to cover all of borough County, including southern portions such

as borough and Lakefield, as well as to southern City of Kawartha Lakes,

including .

Environment Canada had initially issued a tornado warning at 8:01 p.m. for

northern borough County, including Apsley and Woodview, and northern City

of Kawartha Lakes, including Fenelon Falls and Balsam Lake Provincial Park,

after reports of tornado activity and damage Wednesday night near Midland, Ont.

" Radar is detecting a severe rotating storm possibly producing a tornado east of

. There is a line of thunderstorms from through Lakefield to

Tweed. Damage has been reported earlier this evening near Midland with this line

of thunderstorms, " states the warning.

" This is a warning that severe thunderstorms with tornadoes are imminent or

occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions. Take immediate safety

precautions.

" Over Southwestern Ontario with a combination of moist warm air and a weak

boundary to the south of Windsor there is the potential for severe thunderstorms

this evening with an isolated tornado.

" A line of severe thunderstorms from Stoney Lake to Lake Simcoe is moving

southeastward toward the Kingston area and will be there by midnight. Currently,

the storms are producing heavy downpours. It is possible that these storms could

also produce strong winds near 90 km/h and large hail. "

There are reports the storm has knocked down power lines in the area of Salmon

Bay Rd. on the south side of Stoney Lake at about 10:15 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning is also in effect for Northumberland County and

the Belleville-Quinte West areas as of 9:42 p.m. Wednesday.

At 10:05 p.m. Emergency Management Ontario issued a bulletin advising all

southern Ontario residents to take precautions because of the storm.

" Emergency Management Ontario recommends that persons in the area described as

Minden to the north, the Brock to the south, Ramara to the west, and Havelock to

the east IMMEDIATELY shelter. Everyone in this area, including motorists and

boaters, are required to go indoors now and seek shelter, " the Emergency

Management Ontario bulletin states.

" Close all doors and windows People currently outside this area are advised not

to enter this area until further notice. If it is safe to do so, pets and

livestock should be removed quickly from outside and given stored feed and

protected water. Do not call 911 for information about this emergency. "

Environment Canada says radar indicates a severe rotating storm likely produced

tornadoes in the Midland and Washago areas.

The Canadian Press says there are reports of significant damage but only minor

injuries after a possible tornado struck the central Ontario community of

Midland.

A police spokeswoman says 's Camp, a trailer park in the heart of Midland,

was hit by the storm.

While an air ambulance was dispatched from Toronto a spokesman says it was

cancelled " due to minor injuries. "

A hospital spokeswoman, Jackie McLauchlin, says a few ambulances have arrived

but are not anticipating a large number of casualties.

A woman reached at the camp says it was the seasonal section, not the mobile

homes, that was hit.

Ambulances have been going in and out, but she says she's only heard of one

person taken to hospital.

The woman, who only wanted to be identified as , says there were some

people in seasonal section but she doesn't know how many.

The Ontario government also issued a " red alert " for an immediate threat in the

central Ontario area following reports of the tornado activity in and around the

Midland area.

Meanwhile, Environment Canada is also warning of the potential for severe

thunderstorms Wednesday night with an isolated tornado to the south of Windsor

with a combination of moist warm air and a weak boundary.
