Penny,Thanks for the info...I'll have to call them today. I don't know if my insurance will cover my stuff beyond the 48 weeks but i have a good crew of people who submit claims and if THEY can't get it approved, no one can! I will call the Roche people to get an application. I just want to be on the safe side. Now that they're putting a picc line in today, it would be a joke if insurance cut me off now....there would have been no reason for the line in the first place and I'd be PISSED!Anyway, thanks again for your information...I bookmarked it. It's just really confusing cuz there are so many pt assistance programs out there, you don't know who to apply to. As I said, I've been denied because I have medicare part D and medical assistance and again, as i said, they wouldn't accept me

even if my insurance won't pay and it sucks. As for the straightening of hair, I'm sooooooooooo pissed!!! My hair used to be thick as h*ll but now i can't get it curly for nothing. I too, will be happpy when it comes back in curly. Also i had 2 hair stylists tell me how "fine" my hair is last week....that isn't *my* hair, *my* hair is medium fine, not like this. Damn! Anyone else out there had this experience and also how long after tx does it take for it to return to it's original state?Anyway, I'll write again this afternoon when I get home from the hospital after they *install* the picc line... :)Thanks for everything Penny, and for everyone else for their input and support!!!!BarbTo: Hepatitis_C_Central Sent: Thu, September 30, 2010 6:57:09 PMSubject: Re: Medication Assistance

I got the interferon and Ribavirin from Roche. http://www.patientassistance.com/profile/rochepharmaceuticals-286/ I would have went into the donut hole with Medicare Part D if they paid for them, so I qualified with Roche to get them free. The social worker at UW Hospital applied for me. I think her name was . Maybe you could call her or any social worker at UW. (608)263-8667. The Procrit was paid for by Medicare Part D.

I hope you can get help.

Penny

So far medicare has paid for all of my IFN, Riba,Nuepogen, and procrit (not that there haven't been many denials and appeals, we always won.) "Protocol" for tx of 1A is 48 weeks. My NP and doc want me to go somewhat beyond that, maybe a couple extra months and that if I relapse on that, to put me immediately on infergen. Annette, my NP seems to think I'm already "cured" but I came back with a "detectable" amt of hepc in my blood....not much, but enough to make me positive after being undetectable since March/April. My next viral load a week later came back undetectable. WHEW! They seem to think it was a lab error but I'm not so convinced. That's why I want to stay on tx for as long as I physically can and for as long as insurance would pay.

>

> That comes to my question: I think Penny told me that her meds were paid for my Roche....what meds do they make? I'm so scared that the ins company is going to cut me off and I'd HAVE to quit tx. I can get sh*tloads of riba as you don't need a prior auth for that, but you do for the IFN....now that doesn't make any sense to me at all!

>

> Back to the question: I've looked into getting help with my meds (and I think I'm gonna have to)as medicare isn't going to go beyond protocol. This I know. I have one month's worth of all meds left and I need to apply at some patient assistance places for when ANTHEM decides not to pay anymore. I've found NOTHING out there, but what i DID find was that i didn't qualify for all the programs i could find because I have medicare and M.A. I told them, "But medicare won't pay for these drugs!" and they still said that I don't qualify because I have insurance!!! I haven't found ONE place that i've found online who could help me out with the cost of meds.

>

> So, could anyone send some links to sites they have used for low cost or free meds? I know that all these meds have different manufacturers and i'd be looking for the IFN, Neupogen, and then the procrit....riba doesn't require a prior auth but all of the other meds do.

Penny, Thanks for the info....much appreciated! Got my picc line in today...seems like more trouble than it's worth. I remember how bruised was from his pic lines.

I was cleaning my apartment today, and found the last birthday card

sent me (in June 2009). Hard to believe but it is coming up

on the one year anniversary of his last admission to the

hospital...he spent last Thanksgiving in the hospital. Guess in the

end, he had enough. The last thing he told me was he was going to

bring me out to eat for all the help in selecting the medicare

insurance, only it never happened.

Thanks Barb. was my brother. My sister and I were kind of

expecting last Christmas to be his last, based on everything we read

on the internet. He didn't get tested back when testing first

became available, though he should have. They need to do a public

service announcement telling everyone that if they received a blood

transfusion prior to 1992 that they should be tested for Hep C.

That way if they have it, they can begin treatment instead of

waiting until it is to late. found out he had Hep C and

Cirrosis of the Liver stage 4 at the same time. He got it from a

blood transfusion back in 1977 during treatment for Leukemia. He

had just turned 46 the month before he died. I helped pick a

Medicare supplement policy for him.

Hi Barb...I'm sorry you lost your sister to cancer. I need to find

out from my parents the date he got admitted. Next month will be

the first birthday without him. At least he's not suffering

anymore.

HI Bill....I'm so sorry you lost your brother to this

horrid virus....I can only imagine how you must feel. I lost my

sister to cancer last year. She was 49. It more than sucks and

my heart goes out to you and your family!!!!

Hugs,

Barb

Re: Re: Medication Assistance

Thanks Barb. was my brother. My sister and I

were kind of expecting last Christmas to be his last,

based on everything we read on the internet. He didn't

get tested back when testing first became available,

though he should have. They need to do a public service

announcement telling everyone that if they received a

blood transfusion prior to 1992 that they should be

tested for Hep C. That way if they have it, they can

begin treatment instead of waiting until it is to late.

found out he had Hep C and Cirrosis of the Liver

stage 4 at the same time. He got it from a blood

transfusion back in 1977 during treatment for Leukemia.

He had just turned 46 the month before he died. I

helped pick a Medicare supplement policy for him.

Bill, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.

Re: Re: Medication

Assistance

I remember how bruised was from his

pic lines.

I was cleaning my apartment today, and found

the last birthday card sent me (in

June 2009). Hard to believe but it is coming

up on the one year anniversary of his last

admission to the hospital...he spent last

Thanksgiving in the hospital. Guess in the

end, he had enough. The last thing he told me

was he was going to bring me out to eat for

all the help in selecting the medicare

insurance, only it never happened.

Penny,

Thanks for the info....much appreciated! Got

my picc line in today...seems like more

trouble than it's worth. With my platelets

being down to 29,000 you can imagine how

bruised I am right now....SH*T!!!! Anyway, I

just wanted to check in and say good night.

It's gonna be a long day tomorrow, going to

the infusion center to get flushed and a

dressing change....wish me luck cuz I'm

gonna have to learn how to do this myself

VERY soon....I don't catch on to these

things very well so keep your fingers

crossed!!! Take care and again, thanks for

the "hair update!" :-)

Bill,The first anniversaries are the hardest I've found and you will never ever forget your brother and the little things about him, his jokes, his expressions, his love for you and your love for him. For the first year after my sister's death I cried every day (and still do a lot of the time) but it was especially hard on the day of the month that she died. For example, every 16th of the month (she died on August 16) was pretty unbearable. Holidays without her were agonizing. But she left behind 2 very compassionate, caring and sometimes a little too goofy twin 12 yr old boys and she will live on through them. I see her in them every time I talk with or see them. So I know how "holidays" and birthdays can be. I still miss her very dearly.Know that I'm here for you and you can email me at

any time or IM me on yahoo at bazimme2. I WILL understand and if anything, you can just vent to me....sometimes that's the only thing we can do. I wish you and your family peace.BarbTo: Hepatitis_C_Central Sent: Sat, October 2, 2010 8:06:16 PMSubject: Re: Re: Medication Assistance
