Guest guest
We just had a powerful thunderstorm pass over. The winds were really strong, really pushing the trees around more than in the last couple of hurricanes. Rain was heavy but didn't last long. Lightning was a little more impressive with two bolts coming down within a quarter mile. One bolt I was looking exactly where it hit, which was probably less than 100 yards away and left a streak in my vision for a few minutes. We also lost power for about 2 hours or so because of an issue at a station, so nothing on the powerlines like downed trees or whatever. Still, a firetruck did come through just after the storm but I don't know if it was looking for a specific place or if it was just patrolling looking for hazards. The local news said the storm packed 60 to 70 mph winds. That was indeed stronger than most of the winds in the last several hurricanes, including Isabel, the one that cause us so much trouble (my power was out for 2 weeks with that one). Fortunately the winds didn't last all that long. Had they been sustained we might have had real trouble. A couple of the trees look like they are leaning a little more, but that might just be a trick of the mind. At least none of them came down.
