I have the same issues. The brain thing seems to be real: when I drink milk I get all kinds of weird effects, one of them being that my eyes can't focus. And I get so I can't think straight ... it definitely feels like a drug. I get really thirsty the next day too, and dried out. And my migraines have stopped since I dropped dairy. No constipation though. Raw goat milk is the same as pastuerized cows milk for me. However I am also casein intolerant (IgA), so I can't say that those effects happen on everyone, and other folks drink milk with no effect and feel great on it. Kefiring the milk does help a lot. IgA reactions are not the same as opioid reactions, and there is some controversy about the opioid thing ... while they think *something* happens in the brain, not all researchers think it is opioid connected. Another thing that happens in IgA reactions is that the gut/blood and blood/brain barriers become porous, which allows stuff from the gut into the brain that normally wouldn't be there. There is no known cure for IgA intolerances, and what evidence there is suggests that once the reaction starts, it doesn't go away. The symptoms can be mitigated though ... taking Pepto Bismol with the meal, or Bentonite (I use Pascalite), or red wine seems to help quite a bit. But personally I think that if a person is intolerant to casein, then raw milk is not a health food for that person ... better to eat stuff like fried dried anchovies, kimchi, collard greens, cod liver oil. I have read that the opioids are there to make the baby sleepy though ... babies sleep a LOT, and they sure seem to zonk out after drinking milk. There are opioids in gluten too ... if she reacts to the ones in milk she may react to the ones in wheat also, the issues are very similar and for some reason the folks who react to one tend to react to the other. > Heidi Jean

Jerseys also produce A2 milk and I read somewhere (maybe here) that goat's milk is A2 as well. Cheers, Tas'.

There are enzyme products specifically made to digest gluten and casein. I use one from Houston Nutraceuticals Inc. called Peptizyde. http://216.114.78.114/webcenter/sites/HNI/Section.asp?SID=3534 & N=Peptizyde Suze Fisher Lapdog Design, Inc. My understanding is that Jerseys tend to have higher type 2 casein proteins than type 1 and that even Holsteins have *some* A2s, but much more A1's. Goat milk also tends to be higher in A2 also, from what I've read. Suze Fisher Lapdog Design, Inc. Web Design & Development http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3shjg Weston A. Guest guest
Wow, Katja! Explains why the Guernsey milk from our Lady that cured my colic as a baby gave me no reactions, why I got allergic shiners after raw milk was no longer available, why I quit most dairy and why going back to Jersey raw milk gave me casein reactions of just different constipation like described along with mucus production, respiratory congestion and eye gravel in the morning. Reading Genetic Nutritioneering by S. Bland PhD. He adds to casein, activation of the immune system like low grade flu, sore muscles, joints, low energy, brain fog. Lactose intolerant can be galactose intolerant as well, running high risk for cataracts. Dad had the worst cataracts surgeon had seen removed few years back. Guest guest
Suze, do these enzymes allow you to eat gluten and casein?
