Thank you very much for these links. They are quite scientific, not at all

like the March 1978 Science Digest article which is more like a teaser.

I should explain why I posted the link to the Science Digest article. For

years in the colloidal/ionic silver community, and all over the internet,

there has been the " colloidal silver kills 650 different microbes "

statement. Although these places cited the information as having come from

the March 1978 issue of Science Digest, the only thing I could find was

" excerpts " -which, as you know, is not the real enchilada. I was beginning to

wonder if the article even existed.

So when I finally obtained an actual scan, it satisfied my curiosity.

However, the article is more like a pop summary than a scientific study. The

articles in the links that you provided provide much more, of course.

Still, for those who ever wondered, the article is there ;-

gives only 33 results: --

The Science Digest article was published in March 1978, so look

for an earlier date among those 33 results...

However, the '650 claim' could predate this report, because:

" Colloidal silver was in common use until 1938. At the beginning of the 20th

century, scientists discovered that the most important fluids of the body are

colloidal in nature. This led to studies with colloidal silver. Prior to 1938,

colloidal silver was used by physicians as a mainstream antibiotic treatment and

was considered " high tech. " Production methods, however, were expensive and the

pharmaceutical industry moved in, causing colloidal research to be set aside in

favor of fast working and more financially lucrative drugs.

The Food and Drug Administration classifies colloidal silver as a pre 1938 drug.

It means that " these products may continue to be marketed, as long as they are

advertised and labeled for the same use as in 1938 and are manufactured in the

original manner " . Some of the manufacturing methods used before 1938 are still

used today. The electro colloidal process, which is known to be the best method,

is widely used. "
