Guest guest
this is a very interesting link. Not sure if I agree with the number of herds infected with CAE..... for instance, who arrived at the number, 85% ? ..........{ " At least 65 percent of goats carry the virus; some 85 percent of goat herds are infected. About 40 percent of infected animals develop symptoms of arthritis, mastitis (breast inflammation), and/or encephalitis " .......}. Does this mean that 100% of all herds are tested and accounted for ? No one has tested my herd... all 3 goats, and more on the way if my buck has been diligent<G>,..... but my point is... there are plenty of 'undocumented herds' like mine, they will * never leave my property, * never be shown at state or county fairs, etc., *will only see a vet if there is a very serious problem that I cannot solve with good herd management and attentiveness, * will not co mingle with goats from other herds * are pasture raised with free choice minerals and alfalfa * will be milked for family use ( my family) * pretty much 'under the radar' regarding NAIS This is the link: http://www.aegis.com/pubs/aidswkly/1997/AW970601.html Am I missing something here ? ~~KL in N TX http://highantlerfarm.blogspot.com
