Hiya Sar

That is excellent - 30kg gone forever!!! Have some lovely family time with your relos, nice of them to drop in, what a great surprise.

I am allergic to penicillin too - no big deal. It just means that you get other funky drugs if needs be.

Thnaks. Dr. Palmer's book says people aren't evaluated for a liver transplant

until the doctors think they will only live two years without it. was

recently evaluated for a liver transplant, but his MELD was not high enough

(they used old labs). He goes to the doctor again on May 5, and hopefully they

use the labs from when he had his gallbladder removed.

s' been in and out of the hospital with various things. Had his gallbladder removed. Had fluid drained. Got morphine shots, etc. No news yet on where he is on the transplant list. He goes for labwork again in July.

Sorry to hear about all that is going thru. He should know where he is

on the transplant list. Where I live they have a backup which you can do so if

the organ is not compatible or something else happens you are there to get the

transplant. You do have to go thru all the preps and be in the hospital like

for the transplant so not a pleasant choice and one I am not willing to do.

Someone I met up here did that and on the 5th time he got the liver and is doing

well. Moving is an option also.

Wishing you and your brother well

Debbie

Thank you. will be on Medicare starting October 1, 2009. Currently he

has COBRA with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia.

He had Leukemia back in 1977, and has gone through that. They consider him

" cured " of it, but of course he could NOT join the military at 18, but DID have

to sign up for selective service. He got blood transfussion during Leukemia and

is how he got HEP C. Back then it was called not a, not b, and blood was not

scanned like it is today.

We have selected a medigap plan, and are in the process of selecting a Medicare

Part D plan since he will be on Medicare next month. We found the plan with the

least TOTAL out of pocket (lower premiums but higher copays for drugs, including

a deductible). This cheap plan is just to cover 3 months. When the Medicare

Part D info for 2010 is on the www.medicare.gov site we will select a plan for

2010, which coverage during the gap is important. Also since it will be for the

WHOLE YEAR and there is no telling what medications will be need I saycoverage

during the gap is worth a little extra in the premium. If he gets a liver

transplant, the drugs will be covered under Part B, but the drugs to treat Hep C

will be covered under Part D (I assume).
