Jo;

I always keep a journal when I travel bacause it is so helpful when trying

to remember what picture I took where and it's nice to read later and

remember things. During the past 10 years or so, I've e-mailed my daily

journal entries to selected friends whom I knew would be interested in my

odd journeys. A couple of years ago when I was in the Midwest of America, a

friend told me I needed to publish the trip journal (my brother whom I took

with me called THAT trip the " greatful dead tour " because I dragged him to

meet so meany dead relatives!). Any road, would you like to be included in

the list when I go to England this summer?

Jim

Jo,

That all depends on how you define time. The " Prime Meredian " runs through

Greenwich, England. That is where we get Greenwich Mean Time (also known

as Coordinated Uiversal Time or Zulu), which is the internationally

recognized starting point for all the standard time zones. Pacific

Standard time is eight hours behind Greenwich Mean TIme. However, when we

switch to " Daylight Saving Time " here in CA, we're only seven hours behind

GMT. So, the question is, does England observe Daylight Saving Time or

not? IF they do, then we're still eight hours different. If they don't,

then it's only a seven hour difference.

Now, the real confusion comes in where a country observes " Double Daylight "

time. Yup.. They move the clocks ahead two hours. Now, if England does

that, they fall in line with the majority of the rest of Europe and we're

nine hours behind them.. So, all we need to do is find out what the local

time is in England and we can accuratley answer your question. (Next time

I call one of our students over in Europe, I'll make sure to ask.) ;-)))

Jo,

That's why the official air traffic control time is UTC/GMT. That way

every airplane and every controller in the world is on the same time all

the time. The crazy controllers and pilots just have to remembeer all the

rules for the different countries and time zones to keep the local times

straight.

And, without doing a double-check, England may be the only European country

that isn't nine hours ahead of us. The rest of the EU countries are on the

same time zone and they are nine hours ahead of us. We have to keep that

in mind when we call our " daughters " and their natural families in Germany,

The Netherlands, Belgium, and the Czech Republic.

Now, you want to talk about Korea, Japan, and Tiawan? We're familiar with

those areas too. LOL

Jo, it is eight hours ahead. I set my alarm to wake up early so I

can be online right now, earlier. I have been sleeping nine hours

each night and even napping as I am detoxing off coffee. Tomorrow we

will go into York to play tourist and I will hit a Starbucks. lol

Yesterday was the baby's party. I met lots of people. I have pics

and can post some when I get back.

Well, I have to keep track because the kids live outside the US.

England is 8 hrs, Germany is 9 hrs except their Daylight Savings time

starts on a different week than our (both places) and Japan is 17 hrs

ahead, not sure yet what time their DS time starts since feels

free to call ME whenever he wants like 2:30 am and ask me innocently

what time is it there? Okay, those two statements are not related! I

have my iPOD set for the time zones my loved ones are in. I had to

use Iraq and Lebanon in the past, too. The only thing screwy is in

the spring and fall since the world seems to change over times on

individual dates. I don't know anyone who uses double daylight time,

but I wonder if it is Greenland or some place like that?

Marta,

You have an IPOD? wants one and Before we found the trombone he

was asking for that for his B'day. How much did it cost(ballpark) and is it

worth the cost? How big is the memory and what is a big memory and how do you

like it? Maybe he will get one for Christmas....

is going to try out for the Etowah county youth symphony

Orchestra....He has the audition piece. If he gets in it will be like an

automatic

music scholarship later. I'm going to try and get the trombone tomorrow for

him because his is crappy and I figure he needs to practice on the new one now.

Well like new...I feel bad because I couldn't get him the one he wanted but

this was such a bargain at the pawn shop. I wondered if it wasn't stolen or

something...LOL. It had a brand new mouthpiece that opened up and not

a scratch on it. The one he wanted was 1500 dollars.....One similar to this

sells new for about 1000, and we got it for $240. He's paid most of it with

his chic a filet checks, so I only have to pay the last $100 or so. Hopefully

he will get in the orchestra. He is in the High school symphonic band and

Jazz band.

I got the iPod to load with books for my flight to England. It is

So it's a true Ipod and not just a MP3 player? I think that I will stick

Mel,

Costco.com has high school band instruments, I found out two nights

ago when I couldn't sleep.
