Guest guest
Although I found this an interesting site ( http://www.vet.uga.edu/vpp/clerk/logan/index.htm ) I did not find anywhere that it relates to HIV or AIDS, or goat to human transmission of CAEV (if I missed it please point it out to me again where to read it) and also noted that it was simply a conglomeration of previous writings by different sources and vets. There is nothing new there. Most of this site was taken from publications dating back to the early 80's and 90's as is evidenced at the bottom of the page. Some of the information I found to be speculative on the writers part as well. Whether it be the actual writer of the information or the re-writer is unknown to me at this time. The newest research I've seen, and there may be more that I haven't seen, was done by Joan Dean Rowe at UC in the late 80's and early 90's. But even that was several years ago and I see some of her older research was quoted in the link you sent from Georgia State University as well. I remember looking at a UC site years ago for any new insight at that time. (mid 90's) There are sites that claim CAEV is transmissible via all body fluids and others that are adamant it is some fluids and not others. That leads one to the idea that the only way to totally eradicate CAEV is by total destruction of all animals that test positive for the CAEV antibodies. That doesn't sit well with many of us dairy goat breeders. Hence the pasteurizing of milk and heat treating of colostrum to kids and dividing of herds continues today. You may not like or believe this, Jo, but many have managed to eradicate CAEV from their herds over the past several years by following these guidelines. These people continue to show their goats at open shows, fairs and the yearly ADGA sponsored National Show. Yes, they too sell their milk for human consumption. I know many of these people personally. Some people give up, some get out of goats altogether and some keep trudging on. I am one of the latter. There is one remaining CAEV positive animal on my farm. She is now 7 years old and has been milking for the past 750 days. Quite a feat since most lactations last 305 days or less. She shows no symptoms of CAEV in any way shape or form. Again I would be very interested in seeing the actual research that you claim to have access to that clearly states drinking milk from CAEV positive animals can/will cause that same human to test positive for HIV/Aids.
