Guest guest
RE: Constipation > You don't have Metamucil there? Yes, actually I was going to suggest that. I have personally found the " fibre tabs " to be most helpful, and using them mostly when things get acute. You can get Metamucil or any generic mixture here in Canada at any drugstore, as well as fibre-tabs. Prune juice, start small, a few times a day also helps, but again, some people find it causes too much bloating and gas pain. Best to try them all out, and see what you are most comfortable with. As always...talk to your doc in case of interactions, conditions, etc. Best wishes... Jay
Guest guest
great response, but in canada i have never heard of fiber drinks angel Constipation Diane (angel), Pain-relief medications do cause constipation. With proper changes in your diet you can overcome this problem. Suggestions: 1. Try one of the fiber drinks on the market. There are several different brands. I mix mine with orange juice which makes it a little more enjoyable. Twice a day should take care of any difficulties. 2. Increase fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. I keep lots of fresh fruit on hand and use fresh or fresh frozen vegetables. 3. Make fruit slushies! If you have a blender put a cup of orange juice, a bannana, and frozen strawberries in the blender. I just keep adding frozen strawberries until the drink is slushy enough for me. I often add Kiwi, or other fruits. Add a cup of Yogurt for a Fruit Smoothie! 4. Do get sufficient exercise. Exercise of most any kind helps the food mass to move through your intestines more quickly. 5. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!!!! Increase the amount of water you drink. Most people in America do not drink enough water. Not only will this help prevent constipation, but it is also good if you are taking medications. It helps to keep your kidneys from being overcome with possible damage from some medications. 6. Take a stool softener. These are available at most Pharmacies or ask your doctor for a prescription. 7 Purchase and keep on hand enemas to use when needed. These evacuate the rectum. 8. Learn how to manually void your rectum. It sounds unpleasant but it is easy to learn and do when nothing else seems to work. 9. Stay away from laxatives unless your doctor prescribes them and monitors your use. You can become permanently dependent upon laxatives if you use them daily. 10. Speak to your doctor. He may be able to suggest more ideas to keep you regular. The benefits of pain control are worth any difficulties related to constipation. Using the above methods you should be able to avoid most of the problems associated with constipation. Ray

Guest guest
can i say something on this topic if i may...i had IBS prior to my injury. i got very constipated often regardless of fiber intake etc. after taking med.s for only 2 years. long story short, the doctors acted as though my constipation was no big deal when i complained. they put me on the usual stool softeners. i got myself over to the GI clinic. had to have many PAINFUL tests. then 9 hours of having my guts cut up. 2 hernia's in GI tract, lost 3/4 of my colon , and 5 other related procedures while they were in there. this all just in my mid 30's. worst of all, even thought i had gotten off ALL of my med.s prior to that operation, the post-op med.s were COMPLETELY ineffective. three of the 7 days in the hosp., i was in a fetal ball, feeling EVERY bit of the 9 hours under the knife. the morphine pump may well have been baby aspirin. after a bunch of hosp. politics and threats from my family, the post op med.s were adjusted. my tolerance to med.s is high due to the obvious, and the " pain team " did not consider that....there are of course more details, but my point is take constipation seriously, particularly if you have IBS. don't let you doc blow you off............by the way, anyone else having difficulty coping with all that's going on in the news? i can't seem to focus on much else...maybe i'm coming around, i managed sent this. my problems seem so irrelevant right now. Guest guest
Hi there, Just adding my 2 cents. I personally just eat prunes or drink prune juice. We do have fiber drinks here in Canada, several in fact including Metamucil and Citricil. My problem comes from Morphine Terry M
Guest guest
For me this is not enough. I have problems with constipation, as my doses og meds vary as my pain varies. I have to use oil as well as other types of more drastic measures, and I HATE IT. I'm trying to eat yoghurt every day, as well as grapes, but keeping my stomach regular is a real problem!! Any other healthy suggestions would be really appreciated. We can't get everything here in Norway, but there may be things we can get here. - - >Hi there, >Just adding my 2 cents. Guest guest
Good morning Lynn, I had to comment on this part of your posting. NEVER feel that your problems are irrelevent! Think of it this way. If you are a religious person, regardless of religion, you have a power watching over you, every minute of your life and then on into eternity. If you're not religious, then consider this, you have us, your community of friends who care about your problems and will be here to " talk " to, regardless of what you want to talk about. So, never feel alone, ok? I've been there so I think I can understand. I spent some time in a Veteran's Administration hospital, we'll leave it at that. This wonderful thing called the Internet has been a true saving grace for me. It allows me to speak out and be heard, to voice my opinions and have them considered and to consider my problems and have them taken seriously. The same is here for you. Yours, > my problems seem so irrelevant right now. > GOD BLESS OUR NATION > lynn > > > > > __________________________________________________
Guest guest
A couple of home remedies I found for constipation: Birch beer and oranges. Oh, and sometimes buttered popcorn helps me. Don't drink too much birch beer or you'll be in the rest room all day! http://www.800ld.com/337 http://www.handtech.com/rjdasher http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ride-Sharing http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hams-For-Pets http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Baltimore-Fords-Club Re: Constipation For me this is not enough. Guest guest
BIRCH BEER??? lolol! well, i love the stuff but have never seen a laxative effect no matter how much i drank!!1 will certainly give it a try again, though!!! i can certainly vouch for popcorn, and the butter probably does help. it is a fiber food, and easy for most persons to digest.... i also drink every fluid except milk with a full glass of ice chips or cubes; no glass is ever refilled until all of the ice is gone.i also add a half amount of WATER to every glass of juice or soda, along with the ice. there are still days where colace or senecot-S is needed; i did find that senecot-S caused bad abdominal cramps; anyone need the two full bottles that i have not opened???? plums, raisens, nectarines, peaches, apples, all help. those ofr you with migraines minght need to avoid citrus; it is a known trigger for many migarineurs. Nuts also help; i am fond of almonds myself; great source of folic acid, too. --- Joe KB3GXN wrote: > A couple of home remedies I found for constipation: > Birch beer and oranges. Guest guest
Hello, My nephew is 1 and has been drinking raw cows milk for 4 or 5 months. Just recently he has developed contipation problems. Could this be from the milk (we all drink it and are fine, as is my 1 year old). Any ideas? Thank you

Guest guest
15 years ago, when I entered the coast Guard, they asked mme how much dairy products I consumed. When I told them a gallon of milk every 2- 3 days and 3-4 Lbs of cheese a week (Did I mention WHY I like living in Wisconsin? LOL) they were SHOCKED that I was having ANY bowl movements and that my cholesteral wasn't through the roof. Feed him more Fiber (I also like grain breads) and water and he'll be fine. If desperate, sugar and caffeine both work as laxatives so just give him some chocolate (then again I do LOVE my chocolate - anymore know how I can make it?). " R. Guest guest
I don't know that the milk is causing it- this may be a developmental thing where he is learning that his sphincter works, or they may want to see if he has a spinal defect- I have Spina Bifida Occulta and as a very young child I had constipation problems and urinary tract infections due to the defect. Guest guest
thanks, she has bad bacteria and we are on day 4 of vacomycin for that,i'm just worried if she's not going with all that bacteria being released from her body.she is also on probiotics for about a week now .what is UVIURSI? Re: constipation We had tried Mirilax and everything else under the son for our NT daughter from age 18 mo to age 7. Nothing fixed the problem. From age 5 she was on probiotics and she improved. At age 7 I took her to our son's DAN who suggested running some stool tests. We did that. She suggested we start on 1 cap OXYPOWDER per day, increase as needed. She suggested we increase Vitamin C up to 1000 mg per day if necessary (we are now back down to 500 mg.) And becuase of bad bacteria in the we took a 2 week course of antibiotics specific to the colon, and later 2 weeks of UVIURSI. She is much, much, much better. She still has some motility issues, perhaps sensory perhaps neurological damage from years of constipation. We will test carnitine next time. Good luck.________> Looking for last minute shopping deals? > Find them fast with Yahoo! Search. http://tools. search.yahoo. com/newsearch/ category. php?category= shopping> Never miss a thing. Guest guest
I had good outcome with magnesium to ease constipation. I also use prunes and prune juice when it gets bad. Anyone try these? I didn't need to use these before adding Three-lac though but want to continue using it Re: constipation We had tried Mirilax and everything else under the son for our NT daughter from age 18 mo to age 7. Guest guest
A herbal supp...we are on it too. There is being on probiotics and then there is being ON probiotics...up what you are giving and this will help with motility...we increased them with Matt and he went from NO Bms to three today...the first two were FOUL with bacteria. We are waiting to hear from UCLA if ther is a clostridia issue that requires the RX that you are currently on - probably. The third BM was not nearly as foul. We gave two caps of prob. at different times during the day to get him goin like this. Alternate the types and times of teh probiotics andcut all juices and fruits for now...if you are already not eliminating c carbs, starches, and sugars - cut them for now too. Protein, veggies, bone broths - steam the vceggies in them too....if must give fruit granny smith apple peeled and cored. You will see a huge difference. We also gave magnesium citrate, two pills the other day and that sorted him out and got him moving. We are very happy with Candicid forte to go with the probiotics - this has really helped....Let nme know how you fare on the ABX as we will be heading that way soon. Cheers. Guest guest
Dear Todd, Yes. If the liver is plugged, insufficient amounts of bile can get to the intestines to cause peristalsis. The bowels are sluggish. Add a bit of calcium, and the whole system plugs up. Add magnesium and water is drawn in, and it loosens up. Do a series of liver cleanses and bile floods in, and everything works as it should. Best of Health!
