10 more swine flu deaths in India, toll rises to 1206

New Delhi, January 27, 2010

Influenza A (H1N1) continued to claim lives in India, with ten more deaths

reported from different parts raising the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in

the country so far to 1206.

An official statement said seven of the deaths - six in Gujarat and one in

Rajasthan - were reported during the day.

Besides, reports of three more deaths that occurred in recent days - one each in

Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Delhi and Haryana - were conveyed by the respective

state governments to the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare today, it

said.

Of the total swine flu deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra now accounts

for 311, while 223 lives have been lost in Gujarat, 176 in Rajasthan, 141 in

Karnataka, 93 in Delhi, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 38 in Punjab, 36 in Kerala, 34 in

Haryana, 20 in Madhya Pradesh, 18 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Uttarakhand, 8 each in

Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 each in Chhattisgarh and

Puducherry, 5 in Goa, 4 in Jammu & Kashmir, 3 in Orissa, 2 in Assam and 1 each

in Mizoram and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

The statement said 30 new cases of swine flu were reported from different parts

of India today, including 8 in Gujarat, 6 in Karnataka, 4 in Chandigarh, 3 each

in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, 2 in Haryana and 1 each in Andhra Pradesh.

Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala.

With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported

in the country so far has gone up to 28,665, the statement added.
