Sharon,

I suggest you contact Sandi and search the archives. I believe her

surgeon was Dr.Z for her situation down there.

Yowza! I had a tiny fissure years ago and it took six months to

heal! Talk about stubborn! I got it from taking antioxidant

vitamins. Decided I would rather die sooner than live longer with

fissures. lol

i wish mine would heal with vitamins, or anything! But, Mine have

gone past the point of being acute, and hve moved on to being

Chronic which means they have affected the muscle. There are 2 long

ones. one on each side. If they were acute Dr Z said he could

remove the surrounding tissue, but he said it looks like he will

have to repair muscle too. a sphenterectomy? something like that.

I am trying to contact him for more info, but with the office being

backed up due their loss of Dr , it may be a while before he

can get back to me.

And Dr K upped my iron, so now my normal ds poops have changed to

more (extremely more) solid poops....talk about a pain in the ass...

who is still laughing over Jo's extremely compassionate remark after

my rectal exam.....

She said it was a good thing that I gave my soul to God, because

soon my ass was going to be Dr Z's!!!! and then cracked up.

Well what are friends for?!?

> Fissures are terrible. I had a pretty bad one that came on last

October and I could only stand it for a few short months. I got it

surgically repaired in February of this year.

It was not a good surgery for me and I was terribly sore for a few

days. However, I have since healed nicely and if I stay away from the

Cheeto's, I don't have any problems with it now. It did take me 2-3

weeks to heal completely.

Thanks Dannielle

I could take the pain for a couple of weeks. I just have put this off

because I have watched my mom for years, get one hemm surgery after

another, and the pain she goes thru. Just to have them come back. I

figured I would just live with it.

now i cant. sigh

Is there anything they can give you (cream or anything?) untill they

do the surgery?

great hands. Hes cute too, huh?? (wink wink)

I have been using ointment for years. And under extreme pain I use a

suppository that Dr Z prescribed 2 years ago. The only problem with

it is it kills the surface pain but effects the muscle and the fissure

is in the muscle so I get a diff pain.

Yea, he is to cute. Makes it even more embarrasing when my butt is in

the air. lol

yes--quite the " pain in the butt "

I have had a fissure 3 times in the 4 years since DS surgery. The

first 2 times I was able to get it under control with diet and warm

baths pretty quickly.

This time was a NIGHTMARE--- I've been through a lot of pain---

nothing like this--- tried it all---

Diet Change

Lots of H2O

..2% nitro cream

pecoset 7.5(sp?)

stool softeners by the fist-full

A & D ointment

Valium 5mg

and Advil (and actually the advil and valium were the only things that

seemend to help)

Finally after 8 weeks of torture, I got into the colorectal department

at the big teaching hospital here in ohio. The Doc took a look said I

was healing pretty well (until he went poking around)-- he said a lot

of people were coming in " demanding " Botox and he did not think it

worked. He suggested a lateral sphincterotomy-- Quick and easy and I'd

feel better than pre surgery in 48 hours--- there is a slight risk of

loss of bowel control but that is mostly in elderly women--.. I asked

if he could " do it now " in the office-- he said I would not like him

much afterwards if he did and he scheduled me 2 days later (He was

shocked that I lived with the pain for so long). Surgery was a big non

event-- had it done at a big hospital outpatient--- twilight sleep

with a local-- surgery took less than 5 minutes. I was awake and fully

alert in 30 minutes and on my way home in less than 2 hours.

I went home with great pain meds, laxative, and a stool softener. I

felt 0 pain until the local wore off (about 6 hours post op)-- I was

an 11 on a 1-10 scale going into surgery--- a 3-4 that night.

First BM was the next morning--- I was really afraid. It DID hurt, but

no worse than before surgery, and the horrible 4 hour spasms did not

happen-- a 20 minute soak in the tub and I was ready to roll for the

day (went right back to work and did a full 10 hour day.)

I came off the narcotic pain meds after 4 days and took my last advil

after 5. I am one week out and pretty much pain free. (I have had very

loose stools from too much chocolate Easter Bunny-- and that is a good

thing)--

I Do have more trouble telling when I have gas or need to have a bm,

so I always assume BM to be safe-- the doc said that will return to

normal within a couple of weeks- I have no trouble controlling gas or

BMs-- just not sure what it's going to be (could it be too much Bunny??)

Surgery is never a first choice--- but I wish I woud have made this

decision after I got the second fissure---

get scheduled as soon as you can and good luck!!!

Boy, that is really a great story. Should we cut and paste it to the

website? lol Seriously, we should consider it.

Dr K had a talk on this at a support group meeting, but for the life

of me I cant tell the particulars. he did say that a number of his

patients have had to deal with these unpleasant fissures due to our

numerous pooping times and the nature of our movements.

He explained how they develope- that you are prone to them or not. And

that is all I can remember.
