250 Sick From Eating at Indianapolis Olive Garden

Friday, December 15, 2006

INDIANAPOLIS —  More than 250 people have reported

a county health official said on Friday, a day after an outbreak of

E.coli at Taco Bell restaurants was declared over.

The Indianapolis Olive Garden

diarrhea, and in some cases fever, said Althardt, a spokesman for

the n County Health Department.

A spokesman for Olive Garden parent Darden Restaurants

The idea has been put forth that ANYONE selling ANYTHING that is to be

eaten would have to be licensed. That means the tomatoes you grow

would be for your family ONLY, never for sale. That would make the

world a safer place, yeah, right...

Watch... The sequence will be that there is a mounting public health crisis that FDA will need more staff/money to control. Then with the inevitable increase in the number of cases of E. coli 0157:H7 and other foodborne illnesses making the headlines, there will be a call to make the crop foods safe for the public. And the ground work has been set that the only rational way to do that (not heat treating) will be that all crop foods will need to be packaged, and then of course radiate the packages to kill off all of the pathogens and nutrients. The nuclear folks have been lurking in the background just waiting for this. Then of course they will claim that nuclear radiation is what makes our lives safe. Ted,

We were just thinking about this problem today. The

trouble with pasteurization and radiation is that

there still is a very serious problem with

contamination after the sterilization.Especially

because whatever might contaminate the food will have

no competition from common bacteria. The best solution

appears to be for someone to come up with a convenient

appliance that people can use at home or in the

restaurant to sterilize the food just before it is

eaten. That way us fools who want to play russian

roulette will have only ourselves to blame when we get

sick. Would it be possible to make a small home

appliance that would radiate the salad just before it

is eaten?

Wouldn't it be better to frequent small establishments rather than

large fast food chains?

When I lived overseas one of the most annoying American habits was to

seek out the familiar. Americans would pay big bucks to travel to a

different country to " experience their culture " . These same folks

would end up in Mcs happy to have found things " the same as at

home " . When did we get like this?

Seems to me it would be nicer to go from one area of this earth to

another and actually try the local food. Much like I'd rather get milk

from a small family dairy I would like to eat at a small restaurant.

Yes, perhaps, the food might not be just like what I get at home but

that's the idea, isn't it?
