Guest guest
Dear Friends, Okay a lot of you don't know who I am. I am the original owner of this group, I stay mostly quiet, rarely commenting because I have some wonderful people here who keep this board working well, they jump in and answer questions, provide support and do the research need to further educate you on the disease of Hep C. Having said that it is time to share my story. Back I think it was last year, I was referred to a doctor here in San that does research for Hep C. He was interested in me because I was a non-responder, although I reached undetectable last treatment. I did revert back to the virus shortly after. Within 6 months. He wanted me to be in a study that uses the pro-tease inhibitors. I was suppose to start the clinical trial in June, but my A1C hemoglobins were high and didn't fit into the criteria for the study. He asked me to get them down and he would try to find me a spot in one of his studies. Well I am a get it done person. So I treated my blood sugar levels like they were a job. I got busy, started watching my sugar, ate the right things. Took my insulin, and worked like no get out getting it done. I was able to bring my awful A1C hemoglobins down in one months time. Yeah, it can be done. He was amazed, his staff was wowed!! I told him that if I want something done, I do it. Well I went in in August to get into the program and the clinical trial he had me in mind for was pulled by the FDA, oh disappointment for sure. After all that work. But he made me a appt for Nov. And said that there was new trials coming up then. So I do the waiting game again. I got a call Thursday afternoon. Actually, I was on the phone with my brother, chit chatting. When I hung up I noticed that I had a missed call from my doctor's office. Listen to my voice mail, My doctor called me personally. He said although I am not in the office right now, call the office and have the answering service patch you through. Okay, I called. They didn't want to patch me through. But I told them he called me, he said for you to patch me through. They called him on his cell, and then I heard his wonderful voice. LOL Hi, Janet he said "Would you be interested in a spot on this clinical trial that I have in mind for you?" He said " you were the first one that I had in mind when this spot became available because you worked so hard." Can you be in my office in the morning?" I said "Yeah, not a problem, I will be there first thing". I got there and they did all the blood work, Ugh about 7 or 8 but it felt like 20 vials of blood. Got a EKG, they asked all kinds of questions. Did I do drugs? Do I have HIV? and so forth. Nope just the Hep C. I go for my first treatment shot on the 23rd, and then two days after I go back for them to do blood work, I have to keep a treatment diary and so forth. I go back in weekly for checks for 6 weeks. No problem. All my medications are paid by the drug company, labs, and so forth. Yeah I am a quinea pig. But at this point I am a quinea pig who is going to beat this virus. I am going to lay this virus in the dust and stomp all over it. LOL I will give you updates as I go along.
