Ontario Study Suggests that Women Have a Better Sense of Touch

Posted by admin in Health (Tuesday December 29, 2009 at 2:46 pm)

A recent study has confirmed that women are more sensitive: literally.

McMaster University in Ontario, Canada just released the findings, which show

that women have an amplified sense of touch. The study examined about one

hundred women, comparing their tactile observations with men's. The women were

better able to discern fine grooves with their hands. Researchers suggest that

these findings can be explained by the smaller size of a woman's hands. Since

women generally have smaller hands, their touch receptors are clustered closer

together on the skin, giving them a greater ability to sense things.

Researchers believe this may be why women are more adept with tasks that require

precision with the hands. The study also concluded that the index finger has the

most sensitivity of all fingers, which may come from frequent usage. Researchers

hope to follow up the study by comparing adult touch sensitivity with that of

children.
