Guest guest
Yes, please update us. I am so busy at work, so tired, that I couldn't go. I brought work home with me and am still procrastinating! Marta > > Would someone please let us know what the meeting in Delano was about? Guest guest
> > Would someone please let us know what the meeting in Delano was > about? =============================== Dr. K wasn't at the meeting, there was no agenda. Everyone introduced themselves and was encouraged to tell how their lives/health had changed. Then we just chatted/shared/questioned. One of the topics...yes you can regain weight, but unlikely to regain all. Controlling sugar/simple carbs and exercising/activity is the key to controlling your weight. Re-gain tends to be more of a problem at around 3 years post-op. By that time your bowels have become more efficient at absorbing and you just can't get away with as much " cheating " as you used to. Another topic: know YOUR surgery. If your in an emergency room situation or doctors office don't start the subject with If had WLS. The doctors ears will close down and all they will think is Gastric Bypass. Start with I've had a Duodenal Switch. That at least gets their attention. Know how to explain your surgery or be able to refer them to the office. They have had one patient that had an emergency surgery and the surgeon got in there...went " what the hell " and reversed the DS. The patient had other issues so it was apparently for the best. But the surgeon didn't know or understand Why the patients bowels were as they were...so he " fixed " it. Dee stated: " in an emergency room situation DON'T let them THINK you had the gastric bypass...they could Kill you with some test procedures " Of course Calcium came up...bottom line...TAKE IT! Drinking milk and eating cheese is NOT enough to supply your calcium needs. They are having longer term post-ops who don't live in the area and attend support meetings (and seeing Dee's struggle with Calcium) thinking that a cup or two of milk a day will do the trick and they are getting into calcium troubles. When we drink/eat calcium (milk, cheese...) we are only absorbing about a third. There is NO way you can eat or drink enough dairy product to supply your current needs for calcium. So TAKE your CALCIUM SUPPLEMENTS. Dee is real big on this one....wonder why. If your having problems with Kidney stones INCREASE your calcium (double it) like 3000 mg or more. Increase your fluid intake. Never, ever let a Doctor tell you that because your getting Kidney stones you need to decrease your calcium. The evils of drinking alcohol was talked about. During our rapid weight-loss period our livers are stressed to the max. Alcohol is very hard on the liver. We need to wait until at least 6 months past the time that we stop losing weight to give our liver time to repair itself before we drink. Then we need to consider how many sugar calories alcohol has that shoot straight to our hips and reattach as fat. Plus be warned...when you do drink don't think you will handle the alcohol like you used to. You will be a cheap drunk so don't put yourself in a dangerous situation like drinking and driving...and you can be intoxicated with just a few sips! One, it hits your system FAST and two, you are thinner so you have less body weight to handle the alcohol. Tracey and Joy was there. They both look wonderful. Tracey is still losing...slowly, but the scales and her hips are still going down. Way to go! She is Damn close to perfection right now. Tracey said she should be back to a meeting in August....so Sharon, ya got a second shot at getting a good Tracey hug in then. I assume Joy will come up with her...I hope so. We didn't go to Perko's after the meeting. The fog was in and getting thicker so everyone just went while the gettin was good. Guest guest
Jo, Thanks so much for the update on what happened at the meeting. I know that I appreciate it, and am sure that others that can't attend appreciate it, too. le Re: Delano Meeting > > Would someone please let us know what the meeting in Delano was > about? =============================== Dr. K wasn't at the meeting, there was no agenda. Guest guest
Thanks Jo for the report on the Delano meeting. I so wanted to be there, but the fog was in here most of the day and I know how the Tulare and Goshen areas get. Just couldn't chance it. Did anyone check on MIke? Why wasn't Dr. K there? Guest guest
Hey any answer is better than none. I know Mike was going to be staying in a trailer park in Pixley for a week or so after he got out of the hospital. I am not sure about Marta. She is a doc, yet she said she brought her work home with her. Maybe I want to become doc too. Just kidding Marta. Thanks Jo. Pearl
Guest guest
> Did anyone check on MIke? > > Why wasn't Dr. K there? =========================== I wish you could have been there also...but a SAFE Pearl is the way to go and that fog can get nasty this time of year. I'm ashamed to say I haven't checked on Mike. I can't remember his last name...and I'm trying to remember how long he said he would be in the hospital. Why was Dr. K missing in action? I don't have a clue, I didn't ask and wasn't told. It is unusual for him to miss so he must have had something to attend to. He could have been on call for a surgery that came through emergency...he could have scheduled extra surgeries to make up for the ones he had to cancel...he could have been in a meeting...he might have just been tired and went home???? Pick one or make up your own guess...lol..... Lets seeeeee Marta didn't make it to the meeting either...hummmm think there was a connection??? Jo See I told you If I didn't know the answer I'd be happy to make one up.

Guest guest
Eeeew! I meant PAPERWORK! lol! I should have made that clear! I am just tired. Work is very challenging and invigorating these days, but evening activities are out. Tomorrow I am leaving for a weekend in Las Vegas. My sincere hope is that I am able to stay awake to enjoy it! lol Marta > I am not sure about Marta. She is a doc, yet she said she brought her work > home with her. Guest guest
Jo, you are such a sweetie! Perfection? Ah, that's just a pipe dream for me right now! I hate my thighs more than I can express. At least when I was huge, they didn't sag like wrinkled cloth. Since Sharon gave me a ball park figure of what it would cost, at least I know what to shoot for. And I have only a little over 10 pounds to reach my high school weight. Once I've gotten there, I'm hoping I'll have the money for the plastics. Love and hugs! Tracey > > Tracey and Joy was there. They both look wonderful.
