Guest guest
Okay, I eat whatever I want! I eat sprouted grain bread, toasted, with tuna or cheese or whatever I desire on it for breakfast, two to three slices. For lunch I might eat the same type of food (see my little recipe file) or nowadays at my new job, I eat granola bars to tide me over. For supper I really like my own homemade soups made with lots of veggies. I usually eat one or two bowls. I drink tea at night and always have a couple cookies or fruit or candy in small amounts. If I eat lots of candy, I regain. I have no problems with dairy. When I have a couple days off, that is when I might eat white flour products such as a half a bagel or a donut or danish. Oh, I also have been eating Ruffles and dip lately. I also snack on string cheese and jerky. Guest guest
(You asked) What do you eat each day? **Pretty much whatever I want to. But I WANT protein and veggies. I have carbs also...I eat sweets, just not in excess. But the heart and soul of my diet is protein and veggies. Keeping Pepsi " in check " has been a key in balancing where my weight stabilizes. If I start belting down the Pepsi the weight creeps on...I cut back and the weight floats down...If I'd cut them OUT...I'd probably weigh 5- 10 pounds less. Also...Exercise is a key in keeping your weight down and allowing you to eat more calories. When I exercise, I can drink more Pepsi! lol. >(You asked) Types of food and amounts for each meal? ***I eat about 1/3-1/2 what I did before surgery at each meal. > >(You asked) Can you Tolerate Dairy? ***dairy doesn't give me any problems...I did avoid milk for the first 4 months post-op...but when I started drinking it I had no side effects from it. > >(You asked) Breads? ***Yes I eat breads...In the first couple years after surgery, bread was a ticket to a gassy, blow up like a toad night. After the first 2 years it has become less and less of an issue. Just last night I ate at Black Angus and had two small pieces of their brown bread and we had ordered the garlic cheesy bread. I ate 3 pieces of that...then complained I was full...lol...good thing the service was slow because by the time the meal came I was able to eat 1/2 baked potato, 1/3 the prime rib, 1 tiny lobster tail, 3 jumbo shrimp and 1/2 the veggies (I ate the rest of the meal before I went to bed) Any way the point is...I ate plenty of bread and didn't have any gas. Having said that...sometimes Toad bloating gas just comes out of nowhere.. >(You asked) I feel really isolated since we moved back east (I'd usually ask this kind of stuff at a group meeting) ***Hey we are always as close as your keyboard...and If you ever need to talk in person...just call! Guest guest
I am over 3 years out, I got down to 136 and a size 6 then bounced up to about 160 at the highest and right now I am at 148 and feeling perfect! I can wear my 8's and 10's and don't feel bloated nor do I feel scrawny! I have boobs, a butt, and hips and my cheekbones don't stick out! My knees don't knock or leave bruises and I feel good! A normal breakfast for me is 2 cups of coffee with hazelnut creamer, 2 pieces of toast (white - WHEAT gives me the gas from hell!) and 2 eggs with 3 pieces of bacon. I eat a lot of meat, eggs, and cheese, hardboiled eggs, egg salad, fried eggs, omelets with cheese and meat, etc...... I also love bisquits and gracy, I can eat 2 good sized bisquits with sausage or bacon gravy easily. I still adore French Toast as well, but I can't eat it with the rest of breakfast or I would blow up! I can eat a full sandwich if I am STARVING, but normally I eat about half a large sandwich made with a hoagie roll. I eat pizza, love it with bacon, chicken, onions, peppers, and white sauce! I can handle 2 pieces easily with no ill efffects.I eat a lot of tuna, with sweet pickles and mayo! I eat veggies - raw as well as cooked - I LOVE peas, corn, carrots, and green beans, as well as several others, but these are my favorites! FRUIT - all types! I nibble on fruit constantly! I tend to graze all day on protein as well as fruits and veggies rather than sit for 3 meals. Steak, Fish, and Chicken? Heavenly, no matter how it is cooked and I eat them as often as possible! Pork chops, pork ribs, pork roast, etc....makes me neauseated, but I CAN handle ham and bacon. Can you Tolerate Dairy? I was terribly lactose intolerant before DS, now I can eat ice cream, drink milk, and eat cheese with no problems! YEAH!!!!! Breads? I love bread, bagels, rolls, muffins, ALL BREADS! But wheat and whole grains give me the worst gas in the world. I pretty much eat anything I like, in smaller amounts even now, but I have days where I can eat everythng in sight and days where I feel full after 4 bites. Soda isn't a problem, I only use it to flavor my ice cubes! I eat about 5 pounds of ice a day and I just use soda to flavor the cubes or crushed ice and I toss out the soda after I eat the ice. I do drink green tea and flavored teas, I love hot tea in any flavor! Jasmine is wonderful as is the Sugar Pllum tea I got for Christmas! Peppermint tea settles my tummy when it is upset and many others just calm my nerves when I am stressed (I like decaff tea, but EXTRA caf coffee!) Basically I eat like a " normal " person except I tend to look for extra protein anywhere I can find it, and I KNOW that if I eat deep fried foods I am going to pay the next day! But I do still induldge on occasion, LOL, I just schedule a " potty day " on the calandar because I KNOW if I eat lots of deep fried foods I am going to need the whole day to recover! Ray and I and the kids just joined In Shape City, and today is our first visit! Personal trainers, water aerobics as well as free weights and all the normal machines, and they even have a 30 minute circuit like Curves. I am looking forward to it! My only fear is LOSING weight! I want to tone my arms, thighs, butt, and tummy, but I do not want to lose another pound! THAT is what we are going to talk about today - toning programs vs weight loss programs. Hugs to all...... Guest guest
> > What do you eat each day? > Hi! I am nearing the 4 year mark! Hard to believe! What do I eat? I truly eat whatever I want *EXCEPT* wheat products. If I eat wheat I feel very bad. I do eat wheat on occasion - and I *pay* for it! Food is my friend now. I still have behavior problems with eating. I eat for wrong reasons. The DS has not *cured* my eating issues. I am bothered by my poor behaviors and try to correct them. Food however, is now my friend, to be enjoyed and savored! I do not worry about calories, fat grams, points, carbs, etc. When eating sanely I simply enjoy. Does this make any sense? I have had a rebound gain of 11 pounds from my lowest weight. FYI, for the newbies - my 1st year post op I was as *good* as I possibly could be!! I wanted my window to be used to the maximum. Was I perfect? absolutely not! If I could eat perfect - I wouldn't have needed the DS. But I really tried my hardest! hugs, cindy lee
Guest guest
Hiya! I'm 4 years out and 11 pounds away from my goal weight. (Or 16 pounds if I want to get back to my high school weight, but that seems VERY far away.) My daily eating changes a lot but here are a couple of examples of the last two days: Breakfast: 1 cup of Rice pudding Snack: Tall Double Chocolate Chip Blended Creme from Starbucks Lunch: 6 California rolls and a side of white rice Dinner: Romaine and iceberg lettuce salad with grated cheese and cucumber and Italian dressing Dessert: 1 cup of Rice pudding Another day: Breakfast: 1 cup of Ezekial " flourless " cereal with 1/2 cup milk Snack: Tall Vanilla Creme from Starbucks Lunch: Spinach wrap cheese sandwich and fries Dinner: 1 cup low carb pasta cooked in olive oil with Romano cheese, one piece of corn on the cob Dessert: 1 cup of Rice pudding (yes, I LOVE the stuff!) I definitely cannot eat bread without consequences. However, I've found that if I eat it later in the day, around 5:00 or 6:00, the consequences aren't as bad. I don't know why. I can eat dairy with no problems at all. Recently, I've started being able to eat rice and corn with minimal problems. Congrats on your terrific weight loss! I lost about 15 pounds after my hernia repair and tummy tuck so I'm sure you will be able to reach your goal! Hugs! Tracey > > > Thanks to Hernia Surgery, I am now at my lowest post surgery weight (I'm almost 3 years out) Down 150 lbs. I still have another 20lbs that I'd like to lose and am pretty confident I'll get there with my reduced volume since the Hernia Surgery and my ability to tone my core (in a few weeks) for the first time since surgery. Guest guest
Hi Cindee! Good to hear from you! Just a suggestion on the workouts. If you don't want to lose weight, do weight workouts with just a little cardio. I'm trying to lose weight and build muscle so I'm doing more cardio than weights right now but once I reach my goal, I'll probably concentrate more on the weight workouts. Hugs! Guest guest
My DS was 5-15-03 and so I am stable and just finished first round of PS. I pretty much eat what I want to. I always focus on protein first, but once I get in my protein if I want something else I eat it. I do tend to crave protein at different times and it has just become a habit. But I also crave ice cream and sweets too. But I can eat a few bites and 'feel' satisfied. My worse habit is probaly the ice cream and red hots...you know those little cinnamon candies...they are pure sugar, but I eat them no problem...I " CRAVE " them. I do eat some veges, little salad, but probably not as much as I should...just not enough room...that is why I always take all my vitamins. I cold not tolerate Milk before surgery and do no better post-op...I avoid it but have for years. I eat wheat breads or whole breads in very limiting amounts. Love sourdough. Only white bread once - it is horrible for gas and I do not care for it anyway. I am isolated too in south Alabama and the boards are one way for me to keep in touch with other DS'ers so ask away ! Guest guest
Tracey - you make me feel bad about what I eat..you are a picture of health!! (I should feel bad though). For those who dont know me, I am 4 1/2 years out and at my lowest (167) now. Never got lower.. And havent moved in the scales for over a year. My start was 280. Heres what I ate yesterday: 2 pieces white toast with vegemite 1 poached egg 1 rasher bacon 1 cup apple juice 1/4 cup rice crackers 2 sprites 3 pieces grilled cheese on toast 1 choc cookie (yes Jo - a 'Tim tam'!) small bowl fries with ketchup 4 garlic prawns on 1/4 cup rice 2 mouthfuls of salad 2 bites of my husbands 'sticky date pudding' Now dont bash on me too much - I KNOW my carbs are out of control. I have never been good at staying away from bread and I wish I could be better!! Most days I get a small amount of yoghurt and a piece or two of fruit in but lately work demands have meant I am too busy/stressed to eat well. Guest guest
I just wanted to say that this has been an really helpful thread and I hope it comes up every 4-6 months to help the babies get more protein ideas and to also show them that normalcy (or what will become our normal) will come again. Personally, I think the ones that are 2+ years out eat so much food that I can't imagine ever doing that again. I would get full if I just thought about eating that much food right now. But I'm still a baby and I know that one day, I'll be able to eat like my mama's and my papa's! I still say Jo is not my mama though, she's my idol. le Re: What do you eat > Question for everyone postop and at a stable and near goal weight. I am 3 1/2 years out. I lost 160 lbs. Guest guest
> Question for everyone postop and at a stable and near goal weight. I am 4 years and 4 months out from surgery. I weigh about 170 (last I checked), which puts me at a loss of 134 #'s. I've been this weight for about 1 year now as getting pregnant and having a baby kick-started my weightloss, for me. > What do you eat each day? Yesterday (I was a bottomless pit): Breakfast - PB & J on wheat, an apple Snack - 2 pieces pepperoni pizza, 4 grasshopper cookies Lunch - Fish and chips (4 pieces of fish and A LOT of fries) Snack - Homemade gourmet brownie Snack - Handful of peanut butter filled pretzels Dinner - Ramen (MSG flavored, err, I mean chicken) Friday: Breakfast - Wheat bagel, toasted with cheese and 2 eggs Snack - Pop-tart with green tea Snack - Pop corn Lunch - 1 can of chicken made with mustard, mayo and cashews over cherry tomatoes and carrots Dinner - 2 pieces pepperoni pizza > Types of food and amounts for each meal? It really depends on the day. I seem to consume most of my calories in the morning and mid-afternoon and then I am set and only look for dinner. I try and concentrate on protein and manage to do that well, in most cases. But there are other days that I am a junk-food-junkie and there is nothing safe within arms reach. Amounts for each meal ranges as well and I do not portion out. > Can you Tolerate Dairy? Cheese, cream cheese and sour cream yes; milk and/or milk products like ice cream and yogurt, no way! Certain combinations of the previosuly listed do a number on me as well. > Breads? Only whole wheat or the sprouted grain breads. Although I am noticing that I can tolerate more white items and that scares me. I cannot tolerate broccoli without beano nor can I eat beans without the help of beano. I try to not weigh myself and go only on how my clothes feel. I range from a 10-14, depending on the maker. Take good care all! Liz P. Guest guest
Hi Kristy! Your list sounds okay to me! Don't beat yourself up too much. It sounds like your still getting a good amount of protein. The only reason I stay away from bread so diligently is because of the gas problems. The stuff just KILLS me. Believe me, if I could, I'd be eating fluffy white bread every single day. Your current weight is my goal weight plus one! I'm at 179 as of my last weigh in at the gym so just 11 pounds to go and I'll look as fabulous as you do! Of course, considering how long it took me to lose my most recent 5 pounds (over six months), it'll be a year before I get there. But, I'm not gaining so I'm not complaining! Hugs! Guest guest
Hello. Just wanted to respond to your post. I can tolerate some dairy. I can't eat or drink milk, sour cream, cream cheese or blue cheese (soft cheeses are out). But I can eat cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt. I cook with and put soy milk on my cereal. I can eat bread and it doesn't seem to cause me any problems but I think that white bread gives me more gas than other breads but not all the time. I will tell you what I eat on a typical day while I am at school because I am on break right now and eating the house down. For breakfast I will eat in class a protein bar and one cup of cereal that is high in fiber. For lunch I will eat a sandwich or lean cuisine meal, something like that. I have been eating oranges right now (craving them a little and they have fiber) for a snack. I also have been making my own chinese chicken salads and I like to eat those for lunch instead of a sandwich. I eat more in the evenings. I will eat dinner and then graze after but I try not to especially when I am at school. The more I eat, the more I have to go to the bathroom so I don't overdue it during the school week. I eat things like spegatti for dinner or grilled chicken with noodles. I eat protein with every meal that I eat. I still concentrate on drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water a day because I feel better when I do that. I weighed 250 the day of my surgery. I am 18 months post-op and I weigh 145. My goal is 140. I walk at school but I don't do other exercise. I did just get a bike so I plan on riding it more. I love to swim in the summer. I can eat a lot. I have to continue to watch what I eat and how much because I am afraid that I will gain some weight back. I bounce up and down 2 pounds right now. I think when school starts again in a few weeks that I will probably drop a few pounds but I am eating too much right now while on break. I also started drinking more diet cokes and eating more sugary foods so my new years resolution was to try to limit the diet soda to one per day and cut waaay back on the sugar intake. Take care. -- Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirthis heaviness.
