Hi Terri,

You can, but it will still have the same effect. It will fill you up

and stretch your stomach, and may cause gas and bloating. The price

you pay is up to you.

I am a coke-a-holic and wont drink it because I am afraid of getting

hooked on it again. I have had some sodas - usually sprite. But dont

like how it feels in my stomach, and again, I am affraid of getting

hooked on it and the empty calories. Some let theirs go flat- but to

me the attraction is the carbonation.

Now Jo, she loves her diet pepsi- but does it in moderation....huh ,

Jo. ;)

uhhhh DIET????...uhhhh, ok.

Here's the thing...Sharon is correct in that Soda's are addictive and

once you go back you will eventually get Hooked again. Also some

points to remember...soda's, especially the cola's, doesn't matter if

they are diet or regular, interfere with calcium absorption. The

carbonation can also cause gas and bloating. The sweet in sodas (even

the perceived sweet of diet sodas) will cause an insulin response and

that can slow weight-loss.

Will your tummy explode if you have a soda at a year post-op...nope.

But the only good thing to say about going back to drinking soda's are

they taste good.

Jo

Pepsi addict and not proud.

========================================

I saw the wink...I knew you knew...I just couldn't resist.....I'm

thinking it's time to drag out my old story about adding soda's back

into my diet for the benefit of the new kids. Sorry! (I will " try "

to make it short.

At around 10 months post-op " I " decided I was losing weight too fast

and I getting close to goal. I was losing weight at 8-12 pounds a

month. So I decided that I needed to add more calories into my diet

and the thing I missed most was Pepsi. Sooooo I added 1 to 2

Pepsi's in a week...no more. My plan worked. The rate of my weight-

loss went from 8-12 pounds a month down to 1 to 2 pounds. How

dramatic the weight-loss difference was shocked me. But since I was

close to goal I continued with the Pepsi because I was still

losing...just real slow.

After my tummy tuck I started losing again and I was already at 100%

weight-loss. So I added Candy-bars and more Pepsi to stop the

loss. It worked. I stabilized then started re-gaining. I cut the

candy bars out....still regained just slower than with the candy

bars. I was able to stop the daily candy bars without toooo much

struggle...but I haven't been able to shake the Pepsi. And I want

to...Well at least the thinking part of me does.

So ladies and gentlemen...this story is brought to you so you can

see that Soda's and Candy DO directly have an affect on your weight-

loss or re-gain. Have I introduced you to my PEPSI butt? I was

completely cool with the first 10 pound weight regain...in fact I

thought I needed it...the next 5 pounds I was " OK " with it...the

last 5 pounds I said Hell this has to stop. So far I've been able

to stabilize it here at around 150 and balancing my Pepsi intake has

been the key.

My Pepsi's are not diet, they are full sugar Pepsi's. But the

diet/medical community is saying that when we taste the sweet even

from artificial sweeteners our Brain " thinks " sugar is on the way

and releases insulin to deal with it. When insulin is present it is

an environment that we STORE fat, rather than BURN fat. Therefore,

even the diet drinks " can " effect the rate in which we would lose

weight.

Also...regular or diet soda's contain Phosphoric Acid. Which in

high amounts can interfere with calcium. So can Caffeine...so the

cola's carry a double whammy. A soda here and there isn't really a

problem...but when we start drinking more and more and combining it

with other habits like drinking tea and coffee...it is just

something to be aware of if you start to have calcium issues.

Hi Terri,

I would try a half of a 12 ounce can or less to start with and see how

you feel. And I wouldn't recommend it on a daily basis. Something

else to keep in mind, the artificial sweeteners in sodas can cause a

craving for sweets. So, keeping all this in mind, give it a try and

see what happens.

Congratulations on your one year anniversary!

Hugs!
