I have called daily since Friday asking for a

referral to a pain specialist.

HI,

It really frosts (and that's the nice word) me that someone has to go thru

this to get a referral. What difference does it make to the doctor!

I have done things like sat in the office refusing to leave and one time I

went to the office before closing time and waited for the doctor to come out

his private entrance. He was so shocked to see me sitting there in the dark!

BTW...I got the script I was asking for that night.

Aubergine, The only thing I can think of what may cure or stop a headache is

to drink plenty of Caffeine... When I was going to go for a Spinal tap, my

cyberfriends told me to drink lots of coffee and colas before and after the

spinal tap to prevent the horrible headache that is associated with it... I also

stayed in bed laid almost flat and used straws to drink the sodas I caught up on

my reading. It really worked and I did not get the headache... I had heard of

people having to go to the Emergency room because of the headaches... Let me

know if it works for you? Good luck I sure hope the headache goes away soon...

Wish Me Luck

I have had a headache, probably from my CDS, for

the last 5 days. I currently have no pain meds

other than Celebrex, thanks to a GP who wants me

on fewer meds, and the Flexeril alone just isn't

cutting it.

I have called daily since Friday asking for a

referral to a pain specialist. This morning I

got it. My appointment is in 3 weeks, and I am

on the cancellation waiting list. I still have

the crappy headache. All any will suggest is

that I go in to Emergency, which I totally cannot

afford.

Oh well, at least I now have my foot in the pain

clinic door.

One of the pain meds I formerly took contained

caffeine. I had to stop it & all

caffeine-containing beverages when I learned that

caffeine really aggravates my Meniere's, which is

Cochleo-Vestibular Hydrops, or excess fluid

pressure in the inner ear, which causes vertigo &

disorientation. Makes MiMa fall down go boom, as

my grandchildren would say. I cannot afford any

avoidable falls.

Not being able to take anything containing

caffeine, NSAIDs or Tylenol, or any true opiates

really limits my options.

Thanks much for the thought, though.

Try Dristan, or one of the OTC migraine remedies. I have what's called

" sinus-migraine " ,

which means it's a combination of the two. Until I found out about

Neurontin I was taking a lot of Dristan, Tylenol, and found that hot steamy

showers and sometimes anti-congestants, like Dristan or pseudofed helped me.

Even some saline nasal spray may help. I had headaches and nausea every

day. Get your blood pressure checked and get to a doctor as soon as you can.

My Neurologist is the one who recomenneded the Neurontin. I now rarely have

any major headaches.

I do wish you luck! I wish you more than luck, I wish you find a

doctor who will care enough about you to treat your pain effectively!

That makes me so mad.

If the dr. would take you off anything I would imagine the flexeril

would go before the pain meds. All that did was make me sleep and feel

like a pile of jello but did nothing for my pain. My pain wasn't a

headache though- and why would flexeril help with a headache anyway,

isn't it a muscle relaxant? That GP is not very informed. I really

hope the pain clinic will help you.

Almost all OTC stuff is OOTQ [out of the

question]. I have HCV - hepatitis C - which

means don't do anything which might upset the

liver. I also have a shopping list of other

conditions - GERD, IBS/IBD, CHBT, Diabetes 2,

Meniere's, other stuff - which make using

anything without consulting my

hepatologist/gastroenterologist & /or my

neurologist & /or my otolaryngologist & /or my

shrink plus my pharmacist a gamble I do not care

to take. No NSAIDs, no Tylenol, no caffeine,

nothing which contains any of these are allowed.

Nice thought. I appreciate it.

This is the Internist who wants me off meds, not

on more. He does a good job with the basic stuff

& all. He is just a bit thrown by someone with

the laundry list of conditions I have - literally

a full page worth. I am getting back to seeing

specialists because he wants their input before

he does something. Once a specialist has decided

that I really do need something, he will

prescribe & supervise unless the specialist wants

to follow-up. Plus he says that each additional

med increases the likelihood that I will have a

problem with the mix, and I know from unpleasant

experience that he is right about that.

Part of the problem is that the referring Dr

thought that I could call the pain Dr myself &

set up my own appt. I could not. Their offices

did not coordinate well on this.

I also do not think that he has taken well to my

calling him 'Bill', but I figure that if he can

call me 'Betty', what goes around comes around...

My neuro put me on the Flexeril to help with my

muscle spasms & to short circuit the pain/tension

feedback loop: the more I hurt the more I tense

up which make me hurt more which makes me tense

up more etc. It does help, but only when I am

not already hurting a lot to begin with.

The Internist is justifiably worried that the

more meds I am on the more likely I am to have a

problem with the mix. That has been a problem in

the past: periodically my digestive tract totally

rebels & I cannot take anything at all or even

eat solid food except the BRAT diet [not good for

diabetics, but great for IBS] for a week or more.

He will go along with anything a specialist

prescribes. He sends me to specialists because I

have such a variety of conditions, at least one

of which is potentially fatal.

This means that I am adding the pain doc from

Viet Nam to the shrink & gastro from India with

the unpronounceable names and the hepato from

Spain with the high Castillian accent. Our

little community has quite the international

complement of Drs, especially in the

specialities.

Thanks, , and thank you all. This is just

what I was hoping that I could find when I

started looking for a list for people in pain -

not just a list but a community of concern.

this is sad and funny at the same time; i love the first

name stuff!!!!!

I will gladly see any dr that domes off of his/her podium

long enough to respond to their first name from a " lowly

patient " ; who says we are " patient " ???!!

i like KAthaleen;s method, too; must be in the name; that

is my given name!!!! and i have done the same thing!!!!!

I hope that all of your doctors coordinate with one another and make

sure that everything is taken into consideration.

In the past, one of my doctors gave me steroids which aggravated

another condition which lead to complications.

It would be hard to prove that this definitely caused specific

problems, but the fact that I informed him of every condition I have

and the fact that he went ahead anyway and gave me the steroids is not

right at all.

If I'd known to stay away from the steroids I would have told him so,

but unfortunately I did not know and he is the one with the medical

degree. I hate all of this.

Good for you, LOL I had noticed that myself that the doctor calls me and

it never crossed my mind about calling them anything other than Doctor...A

couple of my Doctors have seen me naked ( to be examined ) I shall have to try

calling them by their names...and see what reaction I get... :o)

Kristy!

Somehow I missed your post that you got a job. Congratulations!

And the Container Store! I'd never have any money if I worked there

because I'd spend it all before I got it! LOL!

Glad to hear you've got something to keep your days busy until you

move.

Hugs!
