Guest guest
Glad you made it to GA. I’m in south Atlanta. Don’t know where exactly you are right now since I moved here last year. We have a great supplier up here however! Finally I made it to Georgia~~YIPEE~~ After almost a year of having to go down under and skim the list when time permitted, we arrived safe and sound and settled into a townhome until we can get our property in Haddock ready to move onto. So fill me in on the places in Milledgeville area to get the goods~lol~ I had 2 contacts saved but when I moved we had to reformat my pc sadly and I lost all my contacts. Guest guest
It looks like this place here would be close for Goats milk that was the only one I saw listed in the realmilk website. I would join SED and find out if there were any others. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/SEDairyClub/. Haddock: My Father's Place. I would contact Chad www.carltonfarm.com About getting in contact if you want to do something like that. ----Original Message----- From: RawDairy [mailto:RawDairy ] On Behalf Of Sent: Sunday, September 03, 2006 7:56 AM To: RawDairy Subject: RE: Finally Glad you made it to GA. Guest guest
Question about goats milk... I have been shopping at organic markets now for a long time. I was curious about goats milk and bought some from the market....BUT it was pasturized. When I tried some, it tasted very sour, almost rancid. My question is, is that typical of goats milk? What is it supposed to taste like? Kathy RE: Finally It looks like this place here would be close for Goats milk that was the only one I saw listed in the realmilk website. Guest guest
I've never cared for pasturized goat milk. However, raw goat milk is not sour... and even when left out does not turn rancid. That is purely a " feature " of pasturized milk. Goat milk is very mildly sweet with a slightly different mouth feel from cows milk. I will no longer buy either unless they are raw. Question about goats milk... Guest guest
Good to know, thank you ;-) My hubby is turkish, so goats milk was a huge part of his diet growing up. I am going to try to find some around here ;-) I would love to make some goats milk cheese ;-) Kathy Re: Finally I've never cared for pasturized goat milk. Guest guest
No, it is not. Fresh goats milk is sweet and not what we call "bucky". But goats milk is extremely fragile so it doesn't take to being handled for mass market. Guest guest
Kathy, That is NOT what goat milk should taste like at all. Weird. I have two goats in milk right now. We use our milk raw all the time. Sugar's milk taste no different than cow's milk except a little richer and more complex. I like it better. It also doesn't give me a bloated stomach like cows milk does. It sounds like you should ask for a refund. The seller should stand by their product. I have been afraid to try it since, except now hearing ya'll talk about it is sparking my curiosity again ;-) So I may give it another shot, but only if I can find a local reputable source ;-) Thanks for all the input everyone ;-) Kathy Re: Finally Kathy, That is NOT what goat milk should taste like at all. Guest guest
Kathy, That just breaks my heart!!! Sadly, your experience is all too common. Goat milk should taste like the very best milk you ever wrapped your lips around!!! Sweet, smooth, no lingering aftertaste at all. If there is any 'taste' that comes to mind, its of new mown hay- sweet and airy. I was raised on raw cow milk (Jersey and Guernsey) and thought that was THE pinnicle of good tasting milk. Until I tried fresh goat milk. Oh My Gosh, made a believer out of me about subsisting upon goats milk and honey!!!! We keep a Jersey cow, but it's the goat's milk we DRINK! Because goat milk is very 'tender' and has capriolic acid in it, once bruised (by all the pumping back and forth of processing) the capriolic acid is freed and taste just goes downhill in a hurry. Any time I am anywhere that sells any goat milk products I buy and try. So far every almost every single time it tastes like a buck goat smells from the bruising of the milk and freeing of the capriolic acid. I have tried the milk, butter, yogurt and if that's was all I had available I would NOT be using it. YUCK! I make nearly all of our dairy products. I have had goat feta that was over a year old (stored in salt brine) that still did not have any hint of goatiness about it. And, my St. Maure never has any either, and it's aged about 6 to 9 weeks. I have not made any myself yet, but have had some lovely cheddar that was not goaty. So, it's not about the passage of time, but about how the milk was treated IMVHO. Since we raise our own goats and we keep a buck (actually many bucks! LOL) we know what 'bucky' would smell and taste like in dairy products VBG. Even with half a dozen bucks running with my doe herd (after everyone is bred we winter the entire herd together) there is NEVER any bucky taste to the milk. Now, I don't think my boys 'stink' (alright, they do have a smell, but it's not THAT bad!) but dh is so super sensitive to it that if there was ANY hint of it in my milk or cheeses I would be told. LOL. Donna Safehaven Nubians Dandridge, TN > > Question about goats milk... I have been shopping at organic markets now for a long time. Guest guest
On some things, you may come out ahead to hire it done. This is especially true if you don't have any REAL time on a tractor??? Or the proper equipment to do the job. It's not as easy as it looks and getting hurt can sure be a reality for the novice. Even an experienced hand will gauge a job and sometimes hire it done. A dozer can come in and make very fast work of clearing out land at a reasonable cost. And, sometimes there can be a neighbor who will 'trade' work with you back and forth. Check out the community and see who is recomended for either hiring or 'trading' with on getting the job done. This can be a great way to learn the ropes of how to use equipment safely. Buying a new versus used tractor has it's trade offs. The new ones come with many more safety features like roll bars, seat belts, dead man switch, lights/turn signals, etc.. but are costly. Understand clearly though, if you get on a tractor ROLL OVER IS A REALITY sooner or later. Even on flat, level ground, you can flip a tractor. Older tractors won't have the roll bars and other safety features, but will be cheaper if you are not factoring in loss of life and hospital stays. I am not being funny or catty, I can sit here without really trying and quickly bring to mind over a dozen folks I know who have flipped tractors and many died as a result. And, then there is the PTO.... that's another killer and crippler. Building fence is especially dangers as having a post hole digger is a time saver, but it can sure mess you up it you get a tangled. Guest guest
, Congratulations!!! You did it; you should be so proud of yourself and your strength. Be patient with yourself; it takes a while to really start feeling better, but you will. I'm so happy for you.Leigh Hi everyone, Well I just sat here reading 100 emails that I was to sick to open this past week. I finished my last shot last Friday night and took my last 3 pills last night. I am undetected after my 48 weeks. Now I am praying I stay that way. I was fairly healthy during treatment and then caught a bug this last week that knocked me on my butt. I am feeling better today. Thank god! I have had the best support - of course from here and from my doctors. My blood doctor is the best and I am having a plaque made for him. He watched out for me every step of the way. What a year it has been, the treatment, my sis dying suddenly, my cat getting eaten by a coyote and the economy. We all made it through!!! I will not be tested again for viral load until my 3 month follow up. I will keep you posted. How long before I start feeling normal now that I am finished? You guys are the best and I pray for all of us. from CA. From: Janet <doc_jade>Subject: Re: finallyTo: Hepatitis_C_Central Date: Friday, October 9, 2009, 9:31 AM Hey , so happy for you hun.
