Guest guest
Ida, there are some, who don't understand mental illness, who attribute it to strange things. One common suggestion is demon possession. I just chalk it up to their ignorance. The same people would never say the same about someone who is dealing with diabetes. An illness of the mind/brain, is the same as an illness of any other part of the body. . . .Something is not functioning correctly. In the case of OCD, it is a neurobiological disorder, which means it is an illness of the nervous system caused by genetic, metabolic, or other biological factors. With the right treatment (generally the correct treatment to retrain the brain - CBT/ERP, sometimes coupled with medication - SSRIs to correct the serotonin levels) many improve. Just as those with diabetes improve when their insulin is corrected with medication.
