I'm sorry, but I can't say that it has. We've been to two different ones and it

didn't help. Kids can be complicated and my son is - they just couldn't seem to

figure it out in the time they had. Whay are you dealing with?

I think it depends on the symptoms and the particular hospitalization you are

talking about. What are you considering? For my dd, her 60 day

intensive hospitalization was both life changing and life saving. I don't

believe this would have been the case for just a regular hospitalization which

we desperately tried to avoid. I think if there are violent kids or anything

like that it would not have been something my dd could handle. Stormy

thanx bonnie

my son has got severe ocd and he is 13, when he had an assesment sometimes ago

they told me that he needs to hospitalized, but i refused and i let him live

with my brother for sometime...while living there he hid it very well but he

accepted that he was doing rituals on his own. while he is at home with me, he

has involved me in his rituals too to get himself cleaned...but if i refuse to

take part he gets angry and last time he hit me...so im just thinking now that

he needs intensive therapy which he can get it only in hosptal,

however he wont accept to go there on his will...and i dont know what to do...im

just so confused and stressed out...

When you say he can only get intensive therapy in the hospital, is that because

you are in London? Do they have day treatment where he would get the intensive

therapy during the day but come home in the evenings? Stormy

I recently sent my daughter to stay with my sister as her ocd was running the

house. Is this why he is living with your brother? I had to either send her to

another environment for a while to get a rest from her behaviour or hospitalize

her. She refused to leave the house, wouldnt change her nightgown. wouldnt brush

her hair watches over her hoard constanlty. while i know it may not be a

permanant answer i had to do something to get her out of the current state she

was in. At my sisters house there are kids to play with, and its in the country

so she gets out every day. Was wondering if he functions at all while at home

with you?

There are some places that offer intensive outpatient treatment (mayo clinic for

one). Some universities and hospitals do it too. You might want to look at

those as well as some residential treatment (provided the residential treatment

is very specific)

Good luck,

Alida,

I don't really have any advice, but I am wondering whether intensive in-home

family services is an option. They work with families where a child is close to

needing to be removed from the home for a while (it sounds like it might be the

case with his extreme anxiety and hitting you). They come into the home 10-20

hours per week, sometimes more, so you can get all the support you need. It's

like the last step before hospitalization. Of course, you'd need a

therapist/case manager who is knowledgeable about OCD and will make sure he gets

the right kind of help.

I just thought it might be something worth looking into.

hi lisa

thanx for writting back to me...i had no other option either...either to

hospitalize him or sent him to live with my brother but the problem is that

while he was there he was hidding it (ocd) and whenever he could find a chance

he would perform rituals on his own or he would find another way of doing his

cumpulsions, that means that wherever they are, they suffer with it, so i regret

now that i didnt sent him to hospital at least there he could get help

(therapy)...while he was at my brother he functioned normally, with his

behaviour too...but while he is at home with me, the most difficult thing is

that he does rituals involving me too..if i refuse he gets really angry or may

be hit me too...he has got a problem with clothes, eating, washing,..a bit of

harding too....but i am pleased that your daughter is enjoying staying there but

my one hasnt change a bit even he stayed there for nearly 2 months...i was

hoping that staying away from me, may be he is going to realize that even if he

doesnt do rituals with me, there is nothing wrong with it, but no, it didnt

work...i hope it works with your one..

all the best

Alida,

Does your son have a therapist helping him now? If not, it seems the 1st step

would be to find someone right away who can help with the OCD. It sounds like

you have had him evaluated, but it doesn't sound like he's really had any

treatment. This website of British CBT providers might help you find someone

qualified to help, or at least serve as a starting place.

http://www.cbtregisteruk.com/Default.aspx

Does your son recognize his behavior is a problem? Does he want to feel better?

Perhaps he would be willing to read some books about OCD to get him in the mood

to improve and see how things can be different. There are lots of good books out

there, and there's a book list on this website.

Although I don't have hospitalization experience, I agree with the others that

random hospitalization doesn't sound that helpful, except to handle an emergency

situation. A hospital that knows how to treat OCD and uses the right therapy

would be best.

Good luck to you and your son. I hope you find some relief soon.

no stormy, he has been refusing therapy and medication since he was assesed in

september, but 1 months ago there was an emergency and they told me to

hospitalize him( because he could not control his behaviour), they said to me

that his case is severe, but i refused to hospitalize him, instead i let him

live with my brother which first days seemed fine but he has been doing rituals

and suffereing mentally there too...now he is back with me, i think i did a big

mistake then...he involves me in his rituals and if i refuse to take part or if

i do something wrong (occording to ocd), he gets really angry and hits me..thats

what happened a month ago...

If he is refusing all treatment, both meds and therapy, then you may really need

to hospitalize him. If he is a danger to you than it probably doesn't need to be

a hospital that specializes in OCD. You just need to get him somewhere where

they can stabilize him. Is he still dangerous to you or was that an isolated

incident a month ago? Good luck, Stormy

Honestly, if I were you at this point I wouldn't hesitate to hospitalize

especially if they specialize in OCD. Hospitalization, in the right program, is

what made such a difference for my dd. I wish we would have done it sooner for

her. It would have saved her and our entire family a lot of suffering. Stormy

Hi Alida, I agree with Stormy. From what you're saying, at this point sounds

like you should hospitalize him. There are other parents who've been members of

this group over the years, that had to involuntarily hospitalize their children

for various reasons, you wouldn't be the first (or the last). And if they are

familiar with OCD, that's a big PLUS for getting him there. They can work

through the medications much faster there to find something that is helping and

hopefully get him to begin therapy, and have a Plan for him to continue it after

he comes back home.

Keep us updated. We do get protective over our kids, but you need to be

protective about yourself too!!

((hugs))

Alida, I agree with the others. He is refusing treatment, so outpatient

treatment won't help him. If there is a hospital there that specializes in OCD,

I think it will be a tremendous blessing.

Keeping you in my thoughts,
