If not, then happy re-birthday today! This is monumental in your life and you are going to feel so much better in a few months. Everyone kept telling me that in June and the first of July and after my surgery I thought they were crazy! Now I know they were right! This is a great new life! Guest guest
, thank you for your reply abd words of encouragement. I just got home this afternoon and I am really gratefull for the " easy " recovery I seemed to have. I went into this knowing there was going to be pain and all the things I would have to do and I seemed to just breese through them. Dr. K is so wonderfull and the hospital staff went out of there way to make me feel at home. I would definitely recommed this to anyone considering this operation. Thank you again, talk to you soon, Lynette

The more I learned the easier it got on the both of us. Once again hang in there and good luck. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Guest guest
Thank you so much for the kind responses to my post about my 14-yr. old DS- it helps so much to know I'm not alone. Third through sixth grade my son was at a wonderful private school but it only went through sixth grade. He went to a private Christian school for seventh grade, then public school in two different districts for eighth and ninth. He is at the best public high school in the area. Obviously we need to look at totally different types of schools since all three years have been rough for my son with bullying and struggling academically due to his OCD and ADD. We are looking into a small school for learning differences- his therapist thinks he would be the highest functioning one there but I'm not so sure. I just don't think the therapist understands how significant his ADD is, and how much the OCD also makes it difficult for him to focus. He will have a complete educational assessment in the beginning of May- I'm looking forward to finding out if there are any additional problems like learning disabilities or maybe even mild contributing to his problems. I also would definitely home school but my son insists he wants to go to a school and not be home schooled. I told him to keep an open mind about it because we have very few options at this point! We saw the psychiatrist on Monday- he is switching him to Lexapro from Paxil but basically said he doesn't think there's going to be that much of a difference because they're all SSRI's! As we all know there can be huge differences in the way people respond to different SSRI's! I think he was just trying to defend his decision to put him on Paxil to begin with when you hardly ever hear of kids on that for OCD. We switched from Paxil to Prozac because I had heard so much about how difficult it can be to get off of, plus I thought another medication might be more effective, too. Because of my concerns about Paxil, I resisted increasing the dosage so he always stayed at 20 mg. The excessive sleeping didn't seem to coincide with him getting back on Paxil...although there may be a connection. We went back to Paxil because it was a known- I wanted to get him back to relative stability as soon as possible since he was feeling more irritable and was obsessing about suicide on the Prozac. Pam, I think the educational assessment will assess for NLD. He definitely fits many of the criteria for that- disorganized, socially immature, a verbal learner, executive dysfunction ...but definitely NOT perfectionistic! Oh, and one thing I forgot to mention before is that my son considers me to be contaminated because I drink milk, which he thinks is gross. Some of the irritability and attitude is related to this- if I get too close to him or he thinks I've touched something of his without washing my hands. His therapist is going to use ERP for this but we haven't gotten started yet because there are so many other issues to deal with right now. *sigh* Thank you again so much for the support! I truly appreciate it. OCD Mom, Texas
Guest guest
Oh, sounds like you know a bit more than the psych - " they're all SSRIs " - ha! Hope the Lexapro works well, let us know. We only tried Celexa, it worked well. But I know other parents have had to try almost all of them to find *the one* that worked. Could have all the others have unwanted effects but then the last worked great. I say go with your gut for the school. Can you tour it first to get a feel for it, the environment, the other students, etc.? I wondered about NLD for , was going back/forth between that and Aspergers, so similar, but am fine with the Aspergers dx, I do feel it fits. My gut! Milk and OCD - made me think of Monk on TV, scared of milk. I do miss that show, and I both enjoyed it. > > Thank you so much for the kind responses to my post about my 14-yr. old DS- it helps so much to know I'm not alone. > > Third through sixth grade my son was at a wonderful private school but it only went through sixth grade. Guest guest
We miss " Monk " too. It was a great show! One of our favs. In some ways I think it made our son feel a bit better about what he was dealing with, seeing that for Monk it was a " blessing " and a " curse " . The only thing that bothered me was the fact that they did " talk " therapy as treatment, on the show. I wish the writers would have done some research and had him do some ERP. Guest guest
Yeah, it lightened OCD in our lives too. I know what you mean about talk therapy, but the show wouldn't have been as good without those conversations/interactions with his psychiatrist. I recall where his " helpers " had him try to get past some though. Remember one episode where they had a lot of stuff he was afraid of, including milk, set out on a table for him to pick one to get over. That may have been when Harold Crenshaw had gotten over his OCD.... I really did love the episodes where it also showed the agony of OCD. > > We miss " Monk " too. It was a great show! Guest guest
It was horrible when Stanley Kamel died. Despite them not doing the " correct " therapy (lol), we liked Dr. Kroger. Josh has all of the seasons on DVD. It was his favorite show (one of mine too). It did show the agony of when they are stuck, trying to get past OCD, very well. It also showed the courage it takes to live with it every day, while getting on with life. BJ > > Yeah, it lightened OCD in our lives too.
