Guest guest
Maybe the doctors could addresss that question? My son is on the highest dose of Luvox, and it helps the OCD but it is hard dealing with the side effects. He wore contacts but his eyes too dry now, so doesn't wear 'em--was getting nosebleeds in school (which was embarrassing for him to have to deal with) but we seem to have fixed that with vitamin supplement and saline nasal spray--now is having constipation (which fiber pills helped in the previous post?), and he is slowly but steadily gaining weight, which is upsetting us all. We joined the Y a month ago and the exercise helps in all kinds of ways, and I am trying to go to a more " whole foods " approach to the grocery shopping, but he is still gaining. I looked up Luvox and it is supposed to be " weight-neutral " , but it sure seems like it must be a contributing factor.
Guest guest
I'm copying this from a post Dr. Jenike (OCD expert) said in another group when asked the same question: Paxil is the worst of all the SSRIs in terms of sexual side effects and weight gain. Anafranil has a lot of anticholinergic effects like dry mouth, constipation, and racing heart. The others seem to have fewer side effects. Best wishes, Jenike, MD This was a group that's for adult sufferers of OCD. I think that others here have mentioned before that some SSRIs are more " activating " than others, which makes me think of hyperness/energy when I see that word. I know when I mentioned the Celexa and 's tiredness/naps to one psych, he said that they could switch him to something else, like he knew Luvox wouldn't cause that or something, but since Celexa was so great at helping the OCD I didn't want to switch. had never been very active anyway, I always called him my couch potato before he started Celexa! > > Does anyone know which SSRI causes the very least side effects? >
Guest guest
My son is on Luvox and it definitely makes him sleepy. Some Friday nights he would just pass out right after dinner and sleep 12-14 hours. He said sometimes he could barely keep his eyes open at school. Guest guest
Our endocrinologist said SSRI's do curb growth (I have a 14 yr old OCD son), but not as much as stimulants used for ADHD, like Ritalin. We weaned our son off of SSRI's due to the side effects. Jill > > Do SSRI stunt growth in teens? >
Guest guest
Wow, my dd wishes they would have stunted her growth. She was on high doses of Zoloft, Prozac and Paxil from ages 12-18, and she is 5'10 " . She hates being tall. Guest guest
I'm 5'8.5 " and I love being tall. When I was younger, I wore high heels all the time. I dated men 5'7 " to 6'5 " - never cared about their height. My husband is 5'7 " and I wore ballet slippers with my wedding gown. He is the self-conscious one. Our kids are tall too (my dd is 10 and is 5'1 " , and my son is 5'2-3 " at age 12). My husband was a body builder when he was younger and is still in good shape (he compensates for his height that way I think) - it kind of balances us out - LOL. Anyway, all my life people have regarded my height positively. Strange, but i never wished I was a different height. You can color your hair, gain and loose weight, change your appearance in so many ways, but you can't change your height outside the shoes you wear. You can however enhance everything else and it'll make a difference. Bonnie > > > > Do SSRI stunt growth in teens? > > > > > > >
