Guest guest
I have, at first I had to just give my daughter a crumb of zoloft. Just a crumb she was worried it was poision. Then as she calmed down about the medication I increased it a little more. Since your using a liquid you can just put a drop on her tongue and then increase it if she agrees. Or give one drop and ask can she manage another. This process is bound to work if you have the patience for it. It took me a month to get my daughter up to 12mg of zoloft. Pam > > Trying to get our 10 year old started on meds for the first time...Zoloft. Tried pills, she freaked because she was afraid of choking. Just picked up liquid and gave her one dose and she is spitting and gagging in the sink. Geez this is fun. Anyone else encounter this. >
Guest guest
Okay Pam.... thanks, you are absolutely right. I need to regroup and be patient and take it one little step at a time. My daughter also is afraid of dying and is afraid if she takes the meds she will die. Sometimes you need that reminder. Its hard when you want to help them and its one hurdle after the other. Just got to to give this some time. > > > > Trying to get our 10 year old started on meds for the first time...Zoloft. Tried pills, she freaked because she was afraid of choking. Guest guest
Thankfully my daughter is quite willing to take her meds. Matter of fact at 10:00 p.m. she reminds me to give it to her!!! The ironic part with my daughter is before the OCD diagnosis she would/could not swallow a pill, everything she took had to be chewable or liquid. Now after only 2 1/2 months, she has no problem swallowing her pills!!! It seems she really wants to help herself with this, so she's overcome this phobia of swallowing pills. I hope the same happens for your children too God Bless!! > > > > > > Trying to get our 10 year old started on meds for the first time...Zoloft. Guest guest
My daughter takes 30 mg Prozac and will be increased to 40 mg. next week. She does get sleepy sometimes during the day but I wasn't sure if it was the Prozac or the resperidone. Maybe I should ask the Dr. if she should start taking the Prozac at night? Does your daughter take hers just before bed time? My daughter takes resperidone in the morning and at bed time, should she maybe just take it at bedtime? Thanks > > Trying to get our 10 year old started on meds for the first time...Zoloft. Tried pills, she freaked because she was afraid of choking. Guest guest
I've heard the liquid tastes terrible. Would she hold a piece of ice on her tongue or drink ice water first, before taking Zoloft, something that might help her not taste it so much? Or have something for her to drink right after, maybe help her to with the aftertaste. And ask the pharmacist if they can change the taste of it for next refill. I see signs at a lot of pharmacies that they can do that, even have you pick the flavor. I know compounding pharmacies are good at that. Hmmm...isn't holding your nose when you take something supposed to help with not tasting it...?? > > Trying to get our 10 year old started on meds for the first time...Zoloft. Guest guest
DD hates the taste of the liquid fluoxitine. I give her a piece of chocolate to melt in her mouth before taking the med. The chocolate coats the tounge and helps. She takes a second piece of chocolate after. > > > > Trying to get our 10 year old started on meds for the first time...Zoloft.
