An unexpected and very expensive day....

Took Tina (our 13yr old Sheppard) to the vet last night as her ear

was swollen. She appeared to have an ear infection and it was filled

with fluid. I was thinking the vet would take out a syringe and drain

it and off we would go home with some antibiotics... If only it was

that simple. He said that she needed a general anaesthetic and to

have a drain inserted and stitched into her ear. Then the drain would

come out after 4 days and then the stiches out 2 weeks later. He said

it would cost us about $360 which was not what I wanted to hear...

but what can you do?

So Dad took her up to the vet this morning and I was told to ring at

3pm to see how she went. When I rang they said she was fine, still

very groggy, but it had all gone well. I arranged to pick her up just

before 6pm on my way home from work. As an after thought I asked what

the actual bill would be so I could get some cash out. She came back

and told me that the cost was $685!!!! I nearly died. She went on to

tell me how it all added up, but I was so annoyed. It was almost

double what he had told us and with our $3200 OBGYN bill due in 2

weeks, not really what we wanted to deal with right now.

In the end we could not bring her home as she was still totally out

of it and did not even lift her head when we went in to see her, she

was totally unresponsive. I took one look at her blood shot droopy

eyes and burst into tears. They assured me that she will be fine,

that she will spend the night dreaming happily and will be a lot

better when we go and pick her up in the morning.

Anyway... all is good in the scheme of things. It is only money

after all. Have a lovely Aussie day weekend planned. Going to CCoast

for a BBQ tomorrow night. Lunch at Dee Why with on Sunday and

maybe a quick swim at the beach if the weather is nice (P.S we will

NOT be skinny dipping! Just in case you were wondering Rob). Then

Monday will be at home sleeping in and doing nothing...

Hope you are all well and that you all have a wonderful long weekend.

Best wishes

B
